Revelation 20 Satan Bound, The Thousand Years, Satan Defeated, and the Judgement

Revelation 20
After the battle at Armageddon when the antichrist and the false prophet are conquered and thrown into the Lake of Fire something even more extraordinary happens. Verses 1-3 record it.
“Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, holding in his hand the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain. 2 And he seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years, 3 and threw him into the pit, and shut it and sealed it over him, so that he might not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were ended. After that he must be released for a little while.”
For a millennia Satan will be locked away, unable to deceive, accuse, steal, destroy, or kill. The adversary will be chained up in the bottomless pit for all that time. It is probably the same bottomless pit from Revelation 9:1-11 from which darkness, smoke, and locusts came at the fifth trumpet blast. Satan is bound there and the people on the earth are free and in peace. But who is left on earth? Verses 4-6 read,
“Then I saw thrones, and seated on them were those to whom the authority to judge was committed. Also I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for the testimony of Jesus and for the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. 5 The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended. This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy is the one who shares in the first resurrection! Over such the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and they will reign with him for a thousand years.”
The believers who were martyred for Jesus’ sake and those who had gone through the seven years of the beast without worshipping him or receiving his mark. They rise from the dead in the first resurrection and reign with Christ. That could very well be some of us! The signs and the times are pointing to the events of Revelation happening soon. Perhaps you and I are called to suffer through that horrible Tribulation and will be given the blessing of sharing in the first resurrection. We have to be aware and ready for it.
But remember verse 3 told us that Satan will have to be released for a little while. After that thousand years, he will be. Verses 7-10 describe it.
“And when the thousand years are ended, Satan will be released from his prison 8 and will come out to deceive the nations that are at the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them for battle; their number is like the sand of the sea. 9 And they marched up over the broad plain of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city, but fire came down from heaven and consumed them, 10 and the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.”
Gog and Magog are the names given to the nations at the four corners of the earth. I am not sure who the people of these nations are. Are they followers of Christ who wandered away from the Holy City? Are they demons? Are they remnants and descendants of unbelievers from the time of the beasts? Are they the unbelievers from the time of the beasts brought back for Satan’s battle? I do not know and I will not venture a guess, though I will pray and research.
In the book of Ezekiel Gog was an evil prince and Magog the land where he ruled (Ezekiel 38:1-3). But the prophecy about Gog and Magog looks a lot like what will happen when Satan is released from the bottomless pit. Ezekiel 38:4-12 reads,
“And I will turn you about and put hooks into your jaws, and I will bring you out, and all your army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed in full armor, a great host, all of them with buckler and shield, wielding swords. 5 Persia, Cush, and Put are with them, all of them with shield and helmet; 6 Gomer and all his hordes; Beth-togarmah from the uttermost parts of the north with all his hordes—many peoples are with you.
7 “Be ready and keep ready, you and all your hosts that are assembled about you, and be a guard for them. 8 After many days you will be mustered. In the latter years you will go against the land that is restored from war, the land whose people were gathered from many peoples upon the mountains of Israel, which had been a continual waste. Its people were brought out from the peoples and now dwell securely, all of them. 9 You will advance, coming on like a storm. You will be like a cloud covering the land, you and all your hordes, and many peoples with you.
10 “Thus says the Lord God: On that day, thoughts will come into your mind, and you will devise an evil scheme 11 and say, ‘I will go up against the land of unwalled villages. I will fall upon the quiet people who dwell securely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having no bars or gates,’ 12 to seize spoil and carry off plunder, to turn your hand against the waste places that are now inhabited, and the people who were gathered from the nations, who have acquired livestock and goods, who dwell at the center of the earth. “
To me that sounds like Satan leading vast armies from these nations against the gathered people of God. And in Ezekiel The Lord tells Gog and Magog that they will be destroyed and that all the nations will know He is LORD. So whoever the inhabitants of those far off nations are, they are not our concern. We are not told to evangelize or warn them. Whoever they are they have no hope of salvation. They may as well be dead, walking zombies, and slaves to Satan. Regardless, the awesome end of it is that Satan is thrown into the lake of fire, forever. He will no longer be able to deceive, steal, kill, or destroy. He will be in the Lake of Fire forever, not as the king of Hell, not as the prince of the power of the air, but as one of the tormented just like those who will join him there because they believed his beautiful lies.
When Satan is once and for all thrown into the Lake of Fire. The Judgement comes or rather the sentencing comes. Verses 11-15 read,
“Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done.13 And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. 14 Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. 15 And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.”
There will be one basis for judgement, either one’s name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life or it is not. Those who confessed that Jesus is Lord and believed in His Resurrection will have their names written in the Book of Life (Romans 10:9). Those whose names are not there will be thrown into the Lake of Fire with their prince Satan. Jesus described this final judgement in Matthew 25:31-46,
“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left. 34 Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ 37 Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? 38 And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? 39 And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ 40 And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’
41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’ 44 Then they also will answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?’ 45 Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’ 46 And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
Hell is described in Scripture. While we rejoice that Satan, the antichrist, and the false prophet will suffer there forever, we have to remember the countless hordes who will follow behind them. Jesus described it in Mark 9:48 as the place “where their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched.” In Matthew 13:42 He explained it as “the fiery furnace. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” We have been commissioned for a job, we have assignments for our Lord Jesus Christ and for the Kingdom of God. We have to use our love manifested through our gifts for building up the church (1 Corinthians 14), and for making disciples of the nations and baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Spirit (Matthew 28:16-20).
The time is coming soon! We have to be doers of the Word, not preachers or hearers only. We must take seriously the commands to put on the wedding garments (to be saved and living our faith by good works, Revelation 3:18) and to have our oil lamps filled (to be filled with the Holy Spirit and glorifying Christ, Matthew 25:1-12). What is your assignment? How are you using your gifts to fulfill the commissions you were given by The Lord?

Psalm 49 Why Should We Fear Anyone at any Time?

Psalm 49

This Psalm of the Sons of Korah is titled, “Why Should I Fear in Times of Trouble?” That is a good question. Why should we fear? What is it we have to fear? How can anything cause us fear when we are children of The LORD? If we put our trust in Him than surely there is nothing and no one that can shake us or hurt us. We can tell the world we are secure. We can tell those who try and hurt us that there is nothing they can do to us. And we can tell those who have been injured by the powerful that they have hope. Verses 1-4 read,

“Hear this, all peoples!
    Give ear, all inhabitants of the world,
2 both low and high,
    rich and poor together!
3 My mouth shall speak wisdom;
    the meditation of my heart shall be understanding.
4 I will incline my ear to a proverb;
    I will solve my riddle to the music of the lyre.”

Everyone needs to know that God can be their salvation. Everyone whether powerful or weak, rich or poor, needs The Lord. It is in wisdom and love we share the gospel through the Holy Spirit and with prayer. When we praise God we share the secret of salvation and give hope to the lost. Don’t keep your praise private. People need to know the beautiful truth.

People do not want to admit they are weak and unable to do something. We like to rely on ourselves. We cheer the self-sufficient. It isn’t the self-sufficient man who is saved. It is the man who admits he can’t do it himself. It is the man who concedes his sin and weakness and acknowledges he needs Jesus who is saved. Verses 5-9 say,

“Why should I fear in times of trouble,
    when the iniquity of those who cheat me surrounds me,
6 those who trust in their wealth
    and boast of the abundance of their riches?
7 Truly no man can ransom another,
    or give to God the price of his life,
8 for the ransom of their life is costly
    and can never suffice,
9 that he should live on forever
    and never see the pit.”

We can’t rely on our wisdom, our strength, our money, or our authority. The smartest man can still go to the pits of hell. The bravest man can still perish forever separated from God. The richest man cannot buy salvation. The cost is too high for any man to pay himself. Only Jesus can pay the price.  Romans 6:23 tells us,

“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Only Jesus can pay the price of salvation and He doesn’t require us to pay a thing, he freely gives us eternal life. That is awesome. That is great news that every person should get the chance to hear. No one can be good enough, wise enough, or powerful enough to earn eternal life. Verses 10-12 read,

“For he sees that even the wise die;
    the fool and the stupid alike must perish
    and leave their wealth to others.
11 Their graves are their homes forever,
    their dwelling places to all generations,
    though they called lands by their own names.
12 Man in his pomp will not remain;
    he is like the beasts that perish.”

Those people who proudly depend on themselves and who cannot humble themselves to confess they are sinners incapable of perfection will die and go to Hell. It is a fact we need to remember. We don’t remember it so we can argue a person into faith in Jesus. We don’t remember it so we can laugh at them. We remember so we can be grateful and humble ourselves and love others enough to share the gospel. So when we boast, we boast in Christ and not ourselves. We boast in our weakness and so glorify Christ to all those who witness our lives. Paul said it this way in 2 Corinthians 12:9-10,

 “But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

It is not our own power, wealth, intelligence or wisdom which glorifies Christ. It is His strength exercised through our weaknesses which glorifies Him and testifies to the world how awesome He is. Verses 13-15 describe the route of the prideful man,

“This is the path of those who have foolish confidence;
    yet after them people approve of their boasts. Selah
14 Like sheep they are appointed for Sheol;
    death shall be their shepherd,
and the upright shall rule over them in the morning.
    Their form shall be consumed in Sheol, with no place to dwell.
15 But God will ransom my soul from the power of Sheol,
    for he will receive me. Selah”

When we admit our weakness, our poverty, and our sin Jesus ransoms us. He pays the price and gives us the gift of eternal life. We may not have the strength to fight, but The Father does. We may not have the power to overthrow evil, but Jesus does. We may not have the discernment to handle any situation, but The Holy Spirit does. He generously gives us His strength, power, discernment, and righteousness. There is nothing for us to fear. If God is for us who can be against us? Verses 16-20 encourage us.

“Be not afraid when a man becomes rich,
    when the glory of his house increases.
17 For when he dies he will carry nothing away;
    his glory will not go down after him.
18 For though, while he lives, he counts himself blessed
    —and though you get praise when you do well for yourself--
19 his soul will go to the generation of his fathers,
    who will never again see light.
20 Man in his pomp yet without understanding is like the beasts that perish.”

Romans 8:31-39 sums it up so much better than I ever could,

“What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?33 Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? 36 As it is written,

“For your sake we are being killed all the day long;
    we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”

37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Psalm 37 The Righteous Have Eternity, the Lost have Only This Life

6/27/2015

Psalm 37

Does it sometimes seem like bad people have all the good stuff? They get rich. They have cushy lives and everything they want is theirs, even if they have to break the backs of the poor to have it. Believer, you do not have to want what they have. What we have is so much better. Verses 1-4 read,

“Fret not yourself because of evildoers;
    be not envious of wrongdoers!
2 For they will soon fade like the grass
    and wither like the green herb.

3 Trust in the Lord, and do good;
    dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.
4 Delight yourself in the Lord,
    and he will give you the desires of your heart.”

Exodus 20:17 tells us,

“You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his male servant, or his female servant, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor's.”

Those evil people do not have eternal life. All the joy they will ever experience will be during their 120 years on earth, and most of them won’t ever get to a full 120. David encourages us, not to concern ourselves with all they have but instead continue trusting God, living the life He has ordained for us and remaining faithful. He says that when we enjoy our relationship with The Lord, He’ll give us the desires of our hearts.

So does that make you ask why you aren’t driving a Maserati, living in a 16 room mansion with a super-model spouse and 2.3 perfect children? Are those really the desires of your heart if you are seeking God with all your heart? The desires of the heart of a person who delights or relishes, savors, and basks in The Lord doesn’t seek worldly material satisfaction. She seeks a closer relationship with God. She wants to be more like Jesus. She would like to commune closely with The Holy Spirit. She yearns for the Kingdom of God to be bigger. She desires God’s will on earth as it is in Heaven. And our Loving Father fulfills those wishes gladly and plentifully for His children who truly appreciate the greatness of it.

If we don’t yet have that full Spirit filled, Jesus glorifying life, David says, don’t worry, commit yourself to The Lord, stay faithful, and wait for Him. He will make you more like Jesus and He will not only align your will and His but fulfill that will. Verses 5-7 put it like this,

“Commit your way to the Lord;
    trust in him, and he will act.
6 He will bring forth your righteousness as the light,
    and your justice as the noonday.

7 Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him;
    fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way,
    over the man who carries out evil devices!”

We do not have to stoop to hurting other people to get material gain. We don’t ever have to envy the wicked. We should really pity them. They only have this lifetime to enjoy, we have eternity. They only have themselves to count on, we have The Lord God Almighty. David tells us not to bother getting angry. He says not to throw wrath out the window. The acts of those people will be punished, they will be cut off from The Lord eternally when they die. But we will have eternity to bask in His love and worship Him. We won’t even remember the lost. Their lives will be as if they never happened. (Verses 8-11).

The wicked hate us. They judge us as hypocrites and constantly accuse us of being judgmental. They do that because their moral codes are based on lies, they don’t know any better. While they attack and constantly try to hurt us as they charge us with hatred and prejudice, we don’t have to fight back or defend, because God’s got this. We don’t have to fight them because we know that even through their schemes, assaults, and hatred, God loves them and wants them to know Him. We can love them and pity them because if they never humble themselves to acknowledge what Christ did for them, they will die and go to Hell forever separated from the perfect redeeming love of God.

There is nothing to be envious of. We do not have to covet what they have, because it is all temporary. We can revel in the greatness of what we have in Jesus. Verses 16-20 read,

“Better is the little that the righteous has
    than the abundance of many wicked.
17 For the arms of the wicked shall be broken,
    but the Lord upholds the righteous.

18 The Lord knows the days of the blameless,
    and their heritage will remain forever;
19 they are not put to shame in evil times;
    in the days of famine they have abundance.

20 But the wicked will perish;
    the enemies of the Lord are like the glory of the pastures;
    they vanish—like smoke they vanish away.”

As long as we put our trust in God rather than money, as long as we lean on the Lord’s strength rather than our own, as long as we have faith in Jesus’ righteousness instead of our feeble attempts we do not need to covet the wealth or power of men. This life is short. It is temporary. It is a tiny speck in the eternal timeline of God.

There is hope for the lost as long as they breathe. They can turn to Jesus, they can repent, and they can have the hope of eternity. How will they ever know unless our lives exemplify our Lord? Verses 27-31 read,

“Turn away from evil and do good;
    so shall you dwell forever.
28 For the Lord loves justice;
    he will not forsake his saints.
They are preserved forever,
    but the children of the wicked shall be cut off.
29 The righteous shall inherit the land
    and dwell upon it forever.

30 The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom,
    and his tongue speaks justice.
31 The law of his God is in his heart;
    his steps do not slip.”

Our concern with the wicked should not be with why they have “everything.” We know they don’t, because they do not have Jesus. They watch us, they look for any chance to prove us evil. Because they keep so close an eye on us, we can let our lives be a testimony to the greatness, goodness, and love of God. It isn’t we who should envy them, it is they who should want what we have. Verses 32-34 put it this way,

“The wicked watches for the righteous
    and seeks to put him to death.
33 The Lord will not abandon him to his power
    or let him be condemned when he is brought to trial.

34 Wait for the Lord and keep his way,
    and he will exalt you to inherit the land;
    you will look on when the wicked are cut off.”

The wicked may be at war with us, but our war is not with them, it is with Satan. The Lord of Hosts, Jesus Christ leads the fight. We are safe against every attack in Him, our refuge. He already won the war and one day, Satan and all those who follow him, ignorantly or not will perish with him. Verses 37-40 say,

“Mark the blameless and behold the upright,
    for there is a future for the man of peace.
38 But transgressors shall be altogether destroyed;
    the future of the wicked shall be cut off.

39 The salvation of the righteous is from the Lord;
    he is their stronghold in the time of trouble.
40 The Lord helps them and delivers them;
    he delivers them from the wicked and saves them,
    because they take refuge in him.”

What are the desires of your heart? Do you want your children to be known for their faith? Do you want The Kingdom of God to expand? Do you want to be like Jesus? Do you want your life to be pleasing to The Lord? God will give you all that and more. That is so much better than a mansion built on the backs of the poor. Eternal life begins now and it surpasses the temporary pleasures of this world. Don’t hate the evil, instead pity them and love them enough to follow Jesus and be like Jesus. They have nothing worth your envy. You have everything worth theirs.

Psalm 14 The Foolish and the Consequences of Ignorance

6/3/2015

Psalm 14

I know a few people who are agnostics and even atheists who believe Christians are chumps. We’ve been duped into believing that there is a god out there who loves us so completely he came to earth, lived an impossibly sinless life, gave up his life, and rose again. How stupid can we be? Even other religions who believe in a god or gods think Christians are crazy for thinking we do not have to earn our eternal reward.

But the Bible, God’s perfect Word made evident for us reminds us the opposite is true. Verse 1 reads,

“The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.”
    They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds,
    there is none who does good.”

Even the so called good deeds of the lost are not really good. Man can do no good without The LORD. We either serve our Master the One True Living God or we serve the prince of the power of the air, Satan. While God uses all deeds good or evil to benefit His children and conform us to His image when an act is done to serve the enemy it is not a good work, it is self-serving and self-edifying. The good that comes from it is due to God.

Without Him, we can’t be good. Doing good doesn’t earn us salvation it is a result of salvation. The Lord looked for a person who was good without Him and found none. He saw our great need of Salvation through Him, Jesus our Christ, our Redeemer. Verses 2-3 read,

“The Lord looks down from heaven on the children of man,
    to see if there are any who understand,
    who seek after God.

3 They have all turned aside; together they have become corrupt;
    there is none who does good,
    not even one.”

He looks for those who seek Him and when we do, He promises we will find Him. He is at the ready for any who call on His name. In Matthew 7:7-8 Jesus said,

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.”

Romans 10:13 says,

“For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

In their ignorance the lost seek pleasure, self-satisfaction, riches, and power. They hurt others to gain these things. God would freely give joy, contentment, treasures in Heaven, and His power and authority if only they would acknowledge Him and ask. Verse 4 laments their obliviousness.

“Have they no knowledge, all the evildoers
    who eat up my people as they eat bread
    and do not call upon the Lord?”

They are the fools and their foolery results in evil. It results in hate, especially toward the One True God and His followers. God loves us so deeply that when the time comes He will avenge us. Jesus will lead the great army of angels and take vengeance. The Day of Judgement is coming. Verses 5-6 say,

“There they are in great terror,
    for God is with the generation of the righteous.
6 You would shame the plans of the poor,
    but the Lord is his refuge.

7 Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion!
    When the Lord restores the fortunes of his people,
    let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad.”

We have a great sanctuary in The Lord. That Day will be horrible for the lost. Do we really want that end for them? The Lord God Almighty doesn’t want a single one of the lost to die. He doesn’t want them to burn in Hell for eternity. (2 Peter 3:9). And we should share His heart and His nature. We grieve their ignorance rather than reciprocate their hate. We should seek to tell them the wonderful truth, the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Jesus loves them and so should we. Even while He was on the cross dying a horrendous death for us He showed His profound love. Luke 23:34 says,

“And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”

Even the most evil of people was created in the image of God. He loves them. He wants them to know Him. You and I can be the ones to tell them and to show them.

Psalm 1 It is the seed not the chaff that becomes the tree.

Psalm 1

Jesus encouraged believers not to look and act like the world, but to be different, to stand out, and to walk the narrow road to Life instead of the wide road to death. John 15:18-19 says,

“If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.”

The first Psalm talks about being separate from the world. We are not separated by space or walls but we are distinguished by our genuine tangible love, our attitude, our humility, and our nobility. We are children of the King of kings. We are not children of wrath. Our Father is the LORD not the father of lies. We bear our Father’s Image. We carry His Spirit. We are made righteous by His blood.

There is no capacity in Love for hate. There is no occasion in truth for lies. Verses 1-2 read,

“Blessed is the man
    who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
    nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
2 but his delight is in the law of the Lord,
    and on his law he meditates day and night.”

In Christ we are free. But we also do not desire to live the way we did before He saved us. When we live a life of faith in God we are free to choose not to sin. It doesn’t read ‘blessed is the man who doesn’t talk to the wicked.’ It reads “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked” we do not conspire with or huddled up with the wicked. We don’t listen to the advice of the sinful. They may think they are wise and we are fools. But we know we have The Counselor to guide us. We have wisdom when we ask for it. We have the mind of Christ. Why would we take advice from the person who has rejected our Lord for Hell? To stand in the way of sinners means to walk the same path they do, to be among them as a lifestyle choice, to do and be the way they are and not the way we are called to be. So also to sit in the seat of scoffers is to do as they do to sit on the sidelines and ridicule and mock the choices that others make.

Believers have a different path. It is a path of deep and intimate relationship with The Lord. We get to know Him. One of the ways we get to do that is by reading the Living Word, by spending time meditating on it, considering it, reflecting on it, praying it, and letting Him speak to us through it. His law is Love. His Law is Truth. 2 John 1:4-6 says,

“I rejoiced greatly to find some of your children walking in the truth, just as we were commanded by the Father. 5 And now I ask you, dear lady—not as though I were writing you a new commandment, but the one we have had from the beginning—that we love one another. 6 And this is love, that we walk according to his commandments; this is the commandment, just as you have heard from the beginning, so that you should walk in it.”

The first Psalm continues to describe the man of faith in verses 3-4.

“He is like a tree
    planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
    and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers.
4 The wicked are not so,
    but are like chaff that the wind drives away.”

These verses do not promise a life of wealth, they promise that we will not live ineffective lives. Because we live seeking God, seeking His Kingdom and His will live in obedience to Him, delighting in what delights Him. The Lord promises that we will bear fruit n everything we do. That fruit is borne in us as we transform to Christ’s image. It is evidenced by the disciples we make. It is evidenced by the service we do affecting lives. We make a difference. God’s will is manifested in us. He provides our every need both our personal and our ministerial needs. He is the living water and He flows through us and out of us to the world.

Though the lost may become rich, their wealth is only good while they live on this earth. It is temporary at most it will last 120 years and then they’re dead, rotting in the dirt until The Day of Judgement. On that day, like chaff they will be burned. Chaff is the covering of the seed. There is no good fruit from chaff. The fruit comes from the seed inside the covering. The Holy Spirit, our Holy God makes the seed bear fruit. When they rejected Him, they became like chaff, just empty shells that fly away in the breeze. They may make money but they can’t manifest God’s will on Earth as it is in Heaven. Their riches are on earth. Our treasures are in Heaven. Their wealth is temporary. Our prosperity is everlasting, ever-flourishing in Heaven, and living on Earth.

One day everyone will face Judgement. For the redeemed this is a day we eagerly await, but the lost will be shocked to realize their fate. They will perish. Verses 5-6 read,

“Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
    nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
6 for the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
    but the way of the wicked will perish.”

Believer, you and I can make a difference for them. We can love them enough to tell them the Truth, the wonderful Gospel. God doesn’t want anyone to perish. We don’t either. He told us whatever we do will prosper. So how about getting to our Great Commission and making disciples? Let’s live and walk in Jesus’ ways and love people like Jesus loves us. How many will be thrown into eternal fire because we didn’t act? How many have we doomed because we walked in the counsel of the wicked, stood in the way of sinners and sat in the seat of scoffers? How many of the lost would know Jesus if we walked in Love and Lived by the Spirit?

The Epistle of Jude Do You Have What it Takes to Contend for the Faith?

4/10/2015

The Epistle of Jude

Believers we should be defending the truth, opposing the liars, the false prophets and false teachers, and asserting the Gospel. But so many of us get caught up in the fancy words, sprinkled with just enough  scripture or christianese that we don’t challenge the liars, doubt the truth, and even fall victim to their twisted beliefs.

Jude, the brother of James and Jesus wrote to the church to warn them about the heretics and the lies that were infiltrating the church. Verses 3-4 read,

“Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints. 4 For certain people have crept in unnoticed who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.”

If we don’t insist on the pure truth, who will? How many people will fall for the false teachers, who today often have television shows and attract hundreds of thousands to their sugary messages?

Or are you one of the people who maybe falling for the promises of the positive preachers? Do you know the Bible for yourself? Do you know Jesus for yourself? That is the best way to discern the truth from the lies. That is the way to fight back. The false teachers can’t win against the truth. It may be a long struggle, but you can’t give up, you can’t let more people follow them to destruction. All those who don’t confess with their mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe with their heart that God raised Him from the dead will burn eternally in Hell.

We have to know what the scriptures say, we have to know the Gospel we claim to believe. We can’t very well contend for the faith if we don’t know what our faith is. Verses 5-7 read,

“Now I want to remind you, although you once fully knew it, that Jesus, who saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe. 6 And the angels who did not stay within their own position of authority, but left their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains under gloomy darkness until the judgment of the great day— 7 just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire.”

What are some of the characteristics of the false teachers? Verse 8 describes them.

“Yet in like manner these people also, relying on their dreams, defile the flesh, reject authority, and blaspheme the glorious ones.”

We’ve seen those people, they seem so spiritual, but they depend too much on themselves. And they blaspheme, that is curse the glorious ones. The glorious ones are not only the angels, but the demons and Satan as well. Only God has a right to do that. We do not have a right to curse or rebuke them, that is God’s role. These people take God’s role into themselves, declaring visions and truths that come from their own mind and desire for pleasure, power and prosperity. They follow their fleshly and base desires, they live by whims and instincts. These are the ones declaring God’s new will to others all the time rather than proclaiming Jesus Christ. Verses 10-12 describe them like this,

“But these people blaspheme all that they do not understand, and they are destroyed by all that they, like unreasoning animals, understand instinctively. 11 Woe to them! For they walked in the way of Cain and abandoned themselves for the sake of gain to Balaam's error and perished in Korah's rebellion. 12 These are hidden reefs at your love feasts, as they feast with you without fear, shepherds feeding themselves; waterless clouds, swept along by winds; fruitless trees in late autumn, twice dead, uprooted;”

The focus of their ministry is the ego, and the result of their ministry is their own gain. We have to oppose the lies and dark. We belong to Christ and we have to stand for truth, live nobly, and glorify Him always. Verses 17-23 encourage us,

“But you must remember, beloved, the predictions of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ. 18 They said to you, “In the last time there will be scoffers, following their own ungodly passions.” 19 It is these who cause divisions, worldly people, devoid of the Spirit. 20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life. 22 And have mercy on those who doubt; 23 save others by snatching them out of the fire; to others show mercy with fear, hating even the garment stained by the flesh.”

We can’t just stand by and watch as they lead people down some path that leads to Hell. We have to strive for maturity, always more of Jesus and less of us, more of the Spirit and less of our flesh. We have to read the word and live the word and through our suffering be transformed into the image of Christ. We have to be able to discern the false from the true and stop them. Tell them the truth and give them the choice to accept or reject Christ.

Do you feel you aren’t strong enough to fall into the trap of sinning and flesh? Do you think you don’t have what it takes to oppose the wicked? You don’t have to be strong enough, you can’t oppose the wicked. But Jesus can. He gave you the Holy Spirit. Verses 24-25 read,

“Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, 25 to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.”

Ezekiel 18 Your Sins are on Your Head. Someone Has to Pay.

Ezekiel 18

In Israel during Ezekiel’s time there was a popular proverb, “The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge.” (Verse 2). This meant that the fathers sinned and their children paid the price. One can see why this was a popular saying as it might discourage men from sinning since their children would be the ones to suffer and die for their sins. But it also offered a kind of hopelessness. Why bother trying to follow God’s ordinances, when one’s ancestors’ actions required penance?

The Lord didn’t like this saying. It propagated a harmful lie. God said, “Behold, all souls are mine; the soul of the father as well as the soul of the son is mine: the soul who sins shall die.” (Verse 4). He said, ‘If a person doesn’t sin, he will live but if he sins, he’ll die. It doesn’t matter what his father did, it matters what the man himself does.’

In Christianese society we have a ton of proverbs, sayings, and songs which we use to encourage one another, reassure the lost, and hearten the broken. We treat them like scripture. But they are not. Many of them promulgate lies. The truth sometimes hurts. These pretty little sugary nuggets of “wisdom” cheer the person who may finally have been at the point of admitting their need of Jesus. They turn the Christian from the difficult path to the easy one. They lead the believer to look for a way out of suffering rather than thank God for it and allow Him to transform him through it.

The proverb in Ezekiel 18 had people thinking their behavior didn’t matter and they could blame someone else for their choices. God said take responsibility for your own actions. In verses 5-9 the Lord describes righteous conduct.

“If a man is righteous and does what is just and right— 6 if he does not eat upon the mountains or lift up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, does not defile his neighbor's wife or approach a woman in her time of menstrual impurity, 7 does not oppress anyone, but restores to the debtor his pledge, commits no robbery, gives his bread to the hungry and covers the naked with a garment, 8 does not lend at interest or take any profit, withholds his hand from injustice, executes true justice between man and man, 9 walks in my statutes, and keeps my rules by acting faithfully—he is righteous; he shall surely live, declares the Lord God.”

That is a long list but it boils down to a person who actively loves God first and foremost and treats his neighbor as he would want to be treated. Likewise God describes the evil man. He is described as the man who does not do the things listed above. And God says “he shall surely die; his blood shall be upon himself.” (Verse 13).

God clarifies it by saying if the son sees the father being evil and chooses not to follow in his footsteps, the son will live. And God says, if the wicked man turns from his evil and does good, then his sin won’t be remembered and that man will live. Similarly if the man who practiced good changes and does practices injustice, his good will not be remembered and he’ll die. (Verses 21-24).

The Israelites didn’t like this idea. The lie of the proverb was deeply ingrained into them instead of the truth God gave them. Verses 19-20 read.

“Yet you say, ‘Why should not the son suffer for the iniquity of the father?’ When the son has done what is just and right, and has been careful to observe all my statutes, he shall surely live. 20 The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not suffer for the iniquity of the father, nor the father suffer for the iniquity of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself.”

They wanted to blame others for their bad behavior. They wanted to say, ‘Joe is trash because his dad is trash and we shouldn’t expect anything from him.’ They wanted to discount people based on their heritage. But God doesn’t want to discount anyone. Every person has the same opportunity to choose life in Jesus’ righteousness or life chasing false gods. Each person is responsible for their own choices.  A man is not damned by his father’s choices, he is damned or saved by his own choices. Everyone’s sins must be paid for. We choose to love God with all our heart, soul, strength, and mind by making Jesus our Lord, and living out His life by loving our neighbors. Or we choose to reject God and follow philosophies, false religions, and lies, or elevate ourselves to godship.

The Israelites cried foul! It’s not fair! But God answered them in verse 25 and said, “Yet you say, ‘The way of the Lord is not just.’ Hear now, O house of Israel: Is my way not just? Is it not your ways that are not just?”

We do that. We call God’s ways unfair, especially if they do not agree with us or if His way ends badly for us. People cry, “A loving god wouldn’t send people to hell!” but God says, “How could I let evil go unpunished? How would that be justice?” God doesn’t want anyone to die, but His love and holiness demand that iniquity be requited. Verses 30-32 read,

“Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, declares the Lord God. Repent and turn from all your transgressions, lest iniquity be your ruin. 31 Cast away from you all the transgressions that you have committed, and make yourselves a new heart and a new spirit! Why will you die, O house of Israel? 32 For I have no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Lord God; so turn, and live.”

The great news is this we can repent, we can turn from all the evil. Sin must be paid for but God loves us so much that He sent Jesus to pay the price for us. All we have to do is believe and repent and let Jesus be the propitiation, the payment that placates the promise between the Lord God and ourselves.

You are responsible for your choices. It isn’t your parents. It isn’t the abuse, the suffering, the lack, or the excess. You made your choices. You and no one else must pay for them. And the only way to pay is with your life. But God loves you such, He made a way for you. Jesus came and He paid the price. He took responsibility for every wrong and gave you life. All you have to do is accept it.

Ezekiel Chapter 13 If God Didn't Say It, Don't Claim It.

Ezekiel Chapter 13

The Lord gave Ezekiel prophecy against false prophets. He doesn’t like it when people use His name to claim their words are His. This is not a only a thing of the past. It happens frequently today. Verses 2-3 read,

“Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel, who are prophesying, and say to those who prophesy from their own hearts: ‘Hear the word of the Lord!’ 3 Thus says the Lord God, Woe to the foolish prophets who follow their own spirit, and have seen nothing!”

Verses 6-7 reads,

“They have seen false visions and lying divinations. They say, ‘Declares the Lord,’ when the Lord has not sent them, and yet they expect him to fulfill their word. 7 Have you not seen a false vision and uttered a lying divination, whenever you have said, ‘Declares the Lord,’ although I have not spoken?”

That happens all too often today. People say, “God said!” or “The Lord will do…” But He hasn’t said or promised anything of the kind. They may say these things to encourage someone, they may assume their own hearts’ desires are really the will of God, or they may blatantly make up a “word” in order to manipulate the Lord. Whatever their motivations, what they are doing is wrong, blasphemous, and dangerous.

We have no right to make promises for God. Imagine the person hearing the promise and waiting for God to fulfill a word He never gave. They felt good at the time they received it, but what about when the miracle didn’t happen, the provision didn’t manifest, or the blessing passed them by? Will they blame the false prophet? No, they’ll blame the Lord, and themselves. They will follow the lies, and rather than come to the place God wants them, they will seek gratification of false promises.

True prophecy doesn’t always sound good. Sometimes the Lord’s proclamations are difficult. They often require action which may be contrary to our desires or challenging to carry out. His prophecy is always in love and with reason but often tough. The false prophets of Ezekiel’s day continued to tell the people what they wanted to hear, ‘peace for Jerusalem’ instead of telling them to build a wall and protect themselves and to prepare for battle and exile.

When they did say build a wall it wasn’t for protection and war and didn’t come from the Lord, it came from their selfishness and came with deception and decoration to make people feel good about themselves and their situation. The person receiving good news pays much better than the one hearing bad news. Verses 14-16 read,

“And I will break down the wall that you have smeared with whitewash, and bring it down to the ground, so that its foundation will be laid bare. When it falls, you shall perish in the midst of it, and you shall know that I am the Lord. 15 Thus will I spend my wrath upon the wall and upon those who have smeared it with whitewash, and I will say to you, The wall is no more, nor those who smeared it, 16 the prophets of Israel who prophesied concerning Jerusalem and saw visions of peace for her, when there was no peace, declares the Lord God.”

The Lord will not be manipulated. We can’t force Him to keep promises He didn’t make. He loves us too much for that. He’ll destroy the false promises we seek instead of Him and He will destroy the people who claim His word when He didn’t speak. Why does He take such offense to speaking for Him when He didn’t say it? Because although what He has to say is not always what we want to hear, it is always to bring us to Him. When people hear a false message, no matter how innocuous it may seem it can cause them to reject the Truth of Christ and seek a lie like prosperity or a false god who they may think is Jesus but is not the Word, the Truth, the Way, or the Life Himself. Lying to people, sugar-coating God’s Word, and speaking from our own heart rather than the Lord’s heart leads people to die. Verses 17-19 read,

“And you, son of man, set your face against the daughters of your people, who prophesy out of their own hearts. Prophesy against them 18 and say, Thus says the Lord God: Woe to the women who sew magic bands upon all wrists, and make veils for the heads of persons of every stature, in the hunt for souls! Will you hunt down souls belonging to my people and keep your own souls alive? 19 You have profaned me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, putting to death souls who should not die and keeping alive souls who should not live, by your lying to my people, who listen to lies.”

God’s word is meant to encourage the righteous to stay the course. It is meant to move the lost to Jesus. It is meant to stop the wicked from their ways. When we give people words from our hearts and minds instead of God’s we lead them astray and that can lead to death. God will deal harshly with people who use His name wrongly. He will not let them continue to lie and lead people to Hell. Verses 22-23 read,

“Because you have disheartened the righteous falsely, although I have not grieved him, and you have encouraged the wicked, that he should not turn from his evil way to save his life, 23 therefore you shall no more see false visions nor practice divination. I will deliver my people out of your hand. And you shall know that I am the Lord.”

It can be tempting to offer the person going through a terrible time some easy words like “If God brought you to it, He’ll bring you through it.” or “God will not give you any more than you can handle.” But those encouraging little phrases can keep a person from calling on Jesus. Telling a person “God will heal you, He doesn’t want His children to be sick, can make a person think there is a promise that God didn’t make. Rather than calling out to the Lord God, they will call out to false prophet for some more greeting card phrases and in the end be encouraged all the way to Hell with a smile on their face.

Ezekiel Chapter 11 Don't Believe Anyone Who Says God Doesn't Judge

2/25/2015

Ezekiel Chapter 11

How often have you been told God doesn’t judge, or God wouldn’t send anyone to Hell? How often do you hear people say the End Times are far off, the Tribulation isn’t our concern, or even that the End of Days is just a fantasy? The people spreading those lies may full-well believe them, but they are dangerous and lead people into an illusory life following an imaginary god all the way to Hell.

The Lord had something to say to those kind of people in Ezekiel’s day and it stands true today as well. When any of us claim to speak God’s words, wisdom, or advice we ought to be very sure we are speaking the truth and not what the people want to hear. We don’t tell our children it is okay to play on the highway just because we do not want to upset them, and we don’t want to tell others that the consequences of sin are anything but death just so they will still like us. It is more important to tell them the truth because God loves them and wants them to know Him and live.

In Jerusalem the leaders were telling people that Jerusalem was safe, beyond God’s reproach, and His judgments were far off in the future and had no effect on them. The Lord had worse judgments in mind for those people. They thought Jerusalem was their protection and taught that people could ignore God’s statutes, words, and warnings. Verses 8-12 record some of the Lord’s response to them.

“You have feared the sword, and I will bring the sword upon you, declares the Lord God. 9 And I will bring you out of the midst of it, and give you into the hands of foreigners, and execute judgments upon you. 10 You shall fall by the sword. I will judge you at the border of Israel, and you shall know that I am the Lord. 11 This city shall not be your cauldron, nor shall you be the meat in the midst of it. I will judge you at the border of Israel, 12 and you shall know that I am the Lord. For you have not walked in my statutes, nor obeyed my rules, but have acted according to the rules of the nations that are around you.”

When the Lord spoke those words through Ezekiel, one of the men spreading the bad advice died. Ezekiel was really upset and cried out to God, “Ah, Lord God! Will you make a full end of the remnant of Israel?” (Verse 13). But God answered Him with some great encouragement. First the Lord told Ezekiel that some people needed chastisement and would get the punishment they deserved. What kind of loving Father would He be if He let evil go unpunished? The people who had stayed in Jerusalem and received the blessings had acted as if they deserved that goodness and rather than become closer to God they swelled up with pride and left Him. But some of those who had been exiled had taken it seriously and remained loyal to the Lord. God’s promise for them is also a promise for those who earnestly seek Him today and is recorded in verses 17-21.

“Therefore say, ‘Thus says the Lord God: I will gather you from the peoples and assemble you out of the countries where you have been scattered, and I will give you the land of Israel.’ 18 And when they come there, they will remove from it all its detestable things and all its abominations. 19 And I will give them one heart, and a new spirit I will put within them. I will remove the heart of stone from their flesh and give them a heart of flesh, 20 that they may walk in my statutes and keep my rules and obey them. And they shall be my people, and I will be their God. 21 But as for those whose heart goes after their detestable things and their abominations, I will bring their deeds upon their own heads, declares the Lord God.”

The people who had not abandoned the Lord were not perfect. They had stubborn natures. They didn’t get it all right. They probably disagreed about a few things. But the Lord promised to give them one heart, a new spirit, and to replace their hearts of stone with living teachable hearts of flesh. It is God who made it possible for them to walk in His law, not the impossible 613 laws but in His will and word to Love Him with all their heart, soul, and strength and to love their neighbor as themselves.

He makes it possible for you and me as well. All He needs is our willingness to seek Him and His will above everything else. He gives us the faith, the moldable heart, and the ability to obey. What is God’s will? It is that you call on Jesus to be your savior so that you can know Him, and He can be your God and you can be His child. He wants a relationship with you. He wants you to become like Jesus and because of who you are make Him known to the world who needs Him. He loves you. He loves your neighbor. Let Him be God and see how He will change you, employ you, and love you.

The truth is that judgment is coming. One Day Jesus will return and it will be too late for anyone to make a choice. Now is the time to decide. Now is the day of salvation. Don’t listen to people who tell you Hell isn’t real. Do not tolerate the foolishness that a loving god wouldn’t judge or punish. Today is the day to call on Jesus. When the Day of Judgment arrives it will be too late and it is coming.

1 John 5:13-15 Take the Challenge! Ask Anything, Live Miraculously!

1/21/2015

1 John Chapter 5 Verses 13-15

These verses are a wonderful promise. Verses 13-15 reads,

“I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have eternal life. 14 And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.”

Prayer is powerful. God wants us to ask for anything according to His will and know that He hears us, and that if He hears us, of course He will give it to us. I wonder if I took this promise more seriously how different my life might be. Would I see people healed in every manner right in front of me? Would I see people giving their lives to Christ everywhere? Yes, I believe if I more fully lived the life God has for me and if I were more confident about asking anything according to God’s will, my life would more closely resemble Jesus’.

This is not the only place we see this promise. Jesus told us the same thing repeatedly. One of those times is in John 14:12-14

“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. 13 Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.”

Even when He was teaching us to pray He told us to ask for God’s will to be loosed on earth. Matthew 6:9-10 reads,

“Pray then like this:

“Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
10 Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
    on earth as it is in heaven.”

What is God’s will? How is it in Heaven? It is God’s will that all people come to a relationship with Him, that everyone receives eternal life. 1 Timothy 2:1-4 says,

“First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, 2 for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. 3 This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”

But there is more to His will than the beginning of the relationship. He wants us to have an abundant life that exemplifies Christ. The relationship with the Father, following Jesus, filled with the Spirit is lovelier and more amazing than people outside that relationship can know.

John 10:9-10 reads,

“I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”

Abundant life doesn’t mean Lamborghinis and Caviar. The life we have is the eternal life given to us by Jesus, lived now and always. We have life, while the lost have death. We know the way to life. Jesus is the door. Jesus is the way, and the truth, and the life. (John 14:6). It is a relationship following Jesus, doing what He did loving people like He loved. And just like He gave us His life, we are to do the same for others. We have life so abundantly it is eternal, never-ending, deep, and awesome.

What is God’s will as it is in Heaven? It begins with that perfect relationship. In Heaven, In God’s house there is a place for you, prepared by Jesus. He is there and He will take us to Himself. God is our home, our sanctuary, our tower, and our place. Jesus made the way and takes us to Himself. Jesus is not only the path, He is the destination. John 14:1-3 says,

“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. 2 In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.”

Revelation 21:3-5 describes Heaven this way.

And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. 4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

The perfect relationship, including perfect peace and joy awaits us in Heaven and Jesus said we can have it now, here just for the asking. Heaven is not like earth. Satan is defeated. He has no power at all. Revelation 20:10 reads,

“and the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.”

Death and Hades or Sheol, (another word for the grave) are defeated forever. As is unbelief. Revelation 20:14-15 reads,

“Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. 15 And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.”

That is God’s will. God’s will is for all of us to have that deep relationship with Him. He doesn’t want anyone to perish, but He says they will. He says that anyone who desires eternal life will have it but that the rest will not. Revelation 21:8 reminds us,

“But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”

God doesn’t want that for them, but they chose it for themselves. If we want what He wants then we will ask for anything according to His will and He will hear us and He will grant it. So take the challenge I am taking. Be bold. Be confident. Ask God for miracles. Ask God to reveal Himself in you to the dying masses. Ask God to heal, to feed, and to reveal truth. God will hear you and like any loving Father, He will give you the good things you ask for.

    Donna Campbell

    As I read the Bible every day, I take what God teaches me, what He says, and write it out. I then share that with you. It gives me a deeper understanding of the Word and I hope that it will encourage you as it does me, to put your love and faith into action.
