But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Matthew 6:33
James 4
How do you view your life? We can view our lives from the world’s perspective or from God’s perspective. Of course being human it is natural for us to view life from the world’s point of view; we are men and women, born to men and women, and taught by men and women. But when we were saved, God indwelled us as The Holy Spirit; He imbued us with His nature. He opened our eyes and allowed us to see things from a new viewpoint, His. It is still a choice though, how we choose to look at life. Do we choose God’s eyes or ours? Verses 1-3 read,
What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you? 2 You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask. 3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.
Our passions, the desires of our flesh fight to gain control and keep us looking at life, success and happiness through the world’s lens. You’ve been there, you check Facebook to see your friends have gone on vacation again, or out to dinner, or to the beach. The pictures are beautiful and they look like they’re having so much fun. And a part of you yearns to be on vacation or at the beach with friends. Maybe your friend just got a new car, announced she was pregnant, or got a promotion at work. All these things are good, and you are genuinely happy for her, but part of you wants it for yourself too. I long to travel. And when my friends go to the various and many destinations they are blessed to enjoy, I feel a twinge of envy. I can choose to feed that twinge, think on it, and such, I can choose to pursue ways I can travel, or I can rejoice with my friends and keep walking in the Spirit and enjoying the amazing life God has given me.
Instead of seeking the Kingdom of God, your place in it, and God’s glory, it is easy to begin seeking worldly success, possessions, and experiences. What are you praying for? Are you praying that God will grant you that job, vacation, car, or child? Are you praying that God’s will would be done on earth as it is in Heaven, that His fame would increase, and people would come to know Him? Are you praying that you would have a powerful place in His Kingdom (but really meaning the world) or are you praying that He would use you as He wishes and that the gifts He has given you would build and edify the Kingdom? Are you praying for your glory or God’s? Verses 4-10 read,
You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.5 Or do you suppose it is to no purpose that the Scripture says, “He yearns jealously over the spirit that he has made to dwell in us”? 6 But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” 7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9 Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. 10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.
The Kingdom of God is not like the princedom of the world. God’s view is very different from the world’s view. Success in the world is one where the individual shows her great strength, ability, and drive. She decides what she wants in life and stops at almost nothing to achieve it. She bows to no one, people bow to her. In the world, pride is a good thing. But pride is sneaky. Pride leads to so much sin. Love of the world, money, and standing in the world all stem from pride and lead to the various sins which keep people enslaved to Satan, the prince of the world. Success in the Kingdom of God requires humility, it requires we have enough faith to give our passions and desires up to God, to bow before Him and ask for His will, not ours. It requires realizing that we have sinned and are sinners who could not and cannot save ourselves.. To want those things the world calls success is to sully our hearts with idolatry. Success in the kingdom of God shows God’s power, prowess, and persistence Draw close to God, desire Him, seek Him and He will bring us to Him, He will give us the desires of our hearts, and all life’s pieces will fall into place (Matthew 6:33). Psalm 37:1-7 reminds us to be friends with God, not with the world, to want what God wants and not worry about wanting what the world offers.
Fret not yourself because of evildoers;
    be not envious of wrongdoers!
2 For they will soon fade like the grass
    and wither like the green herb.

3 Trust in the Lord, and do good;
    dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.
4 Delight yourself in the Lord,
    and he will give you the desires of your heart.

5 Commit your way to the Lord;
    trust in him, and he will act.
6 He will bring forth your righteousness as the light,
    and your justice as the noonday.

7 Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him;
    fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way,
    over the man who carries out evil devices!

Some people will be better off than us. Some people will have things we want. Some people will be worse off than we are. The envy we let grow within us takes our eyes off God and His mission and puts it on the world and Satan’s mission. I have dealt with ridding myself of the envy and resentment I’ve felt toward people who have things I want. And I’ve let it become bitterness which ate away at me and nearly destroyed my testimony and made me ineffectual in God’s kingdom. I envied the success other people had at getting support for their endeavors and ministries, while I could not get even my closest friends to read a book or a blog I had written. I have envied even silly things such as how many “likes” their Facebook post got, when my similar post was ignored. I began to feel very hurt. I took it personally. I “vented” to my sister. I judged the people who I felt disregarded me and realized how hateful I sounded. I had to cry for my sin. I confessed it and repented it. It is still something I have to choose daily, to be happy for their success and to look at my life through God’s eyes and not mine or my neighbor’s. I have to say when I stopped comparing our success, God showed me who I am in His Kingdom from His eyes. I have nothing to be envious of anyone else. God loves me so profusely! He has made me a warrior princess in His Kingdom. The enemy is afraid of me. And the work I do for Him has an impact whether or not I get to see it. Verses 11-12 read,
 Do not speak evil against one another, brothers. The one who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks evil against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge. 12 There is only one lawgiver and judge, he who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge your neighbor?
It was not up to me to judge people for their perceived disregard of me or even what I saw as their hypocrisy to the Kingdom, neglect of God, or anything else. God knows their hearts as well as He knows mine. Their relationship with Him is between them and Him. I can only live for Him, seek Him, and let the glory of God shine in my life so that people will know the truth, the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is Jesus who saves not me. It is Jesus who judges, not me.
I can compare my life to everyone else’s. I can freak out and think I need worldly wealth and success to keep living. But all that takes away from the Kingdom of Heaven. When I do that, Satan laughs. I will choose instead to leave all that to God. If He chooses to give me family, wealth, success, or whatever, great. If He chooses to give me a path different from others, great. It’s not my job to worry about the worldly stuff, it is my job to purse God’s Kingdom, love my neighbor, and make disciples (Matthew 6:33, Mark 12:31, Matthew 28:19).
In Matthew 6:19-21[i] and 24-25, and 31-34 Jesus said,
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.
“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?
 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
“Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”
Making plans for the future, laying up treasures for your earthly life instead of your eternal one, and serving money instead of God is exactly what Satan wants from you. You will be so focused on the world, you will forget the Kingdom of God. Your heart will be on the things of the world instead of in the Kingdom of God. Verses 13-17 say it this way,
Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”— 14 yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. 15 Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.” 16 As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. 17 So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.
The worldly perspective can look good and right. When we choose to forgo worldly wisdom for Godly wisdom, people will think we’re fools and judge us as wrong. I know it because I experience it. God has called me to walk a path very different from many others. It looks wrong. If I were on Judge Judy, she would be disgusted with me and could not understand living by faith instead of a paycheck. God called me away from a nice paycheck, away from living in my own place and away from the dreams I had for a family. He has given me a ministry different than yours, but not less and not more. My life through the worldview is pitiful. My life from God’s view is wonderful and powerful. There is a commercial that says, “Change your apartment, change the world.” I say, “Change your perspective, change your life, and change the world.”

2 Kings 15:8-38 Seek God’s Kingdom First not Your Own and Trust God to Keep His Word.

2 Kings 15:8-38
As I alluded to yesterday, there are several kings mentioned in chapter 15 and they go in quick succession to one another. Yesterday we read about one of them, Azariah/Uzziah, king of Judah. Today we turn our attention to the kings of Israel during his reign and the reign of his son Jotham. Verses 8-12 describe Zechariah.
“In the thirty-eighth year of Azariah king of Judah, Zechariah the son of Jeroboam reigned over Israel in Samaria six months. 9 And he did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, as his fathers had done. He did not depart from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which he made Israel to sin. 10 Shallum the son of Jabesh conspired against him and struck him down at Ibleam and put him to death and reigned in his place. 11 Now the rest of the deeds of Zechariah, behold, they are written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel. 12 (This was the promise of the Lord that he gave to Jehu, “Your sons shall sit on the throne of Israel to the fourth generation.” And so it came to pass.)”
His reign lasted only six months and during that six months he accomplished nothing significant. He is barely mentioned in the Chronicles and was assassinated without an heir to take his place, or at least no heir took his place to fulfill God’s word to Jehu that his son’s would remain on the throne to the fourth generation.
God’s will is always accomplished, always. When God makes a promise, when He speaks His word it is as good as done. His word is never idle chatter, it has purpose. It issues from His mouth on His Breath and does and will be and is. Isaiah 55:11 says it this way,
“so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth;
    it shall not return to me empty,
but it shall accomplish that which I purpose,
    and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.”

Be encouraged. Whatever promises He has made to you, you can thank Him because they are already accomplished. Every word in the Scriptures are sure, every promise certain, every prophecy fulfilled even before they manifest.
Shallum probably felt pretty great about himself for murdering the king and becoming king in his place. God used his evil schemes to bring about His word, but He did not bless or reward the man for his wickedness. Verses 13-16 describe his reign.
“Shallum the son of Jabesh began to reign in the thirty-ninth year of Uzziah king of Judah, and he reigned one month in Samaria. 14 Then Menahem the son of Gadi came up from Tirzah and came to Samaria, and he struck down Shallum the son of Jabesh in Samaria and put him to death and reigned in his place. 15 Now the rest of the deeds of Shallum, and the conspiracy that he made, behold, they are written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel. 16 At that time Menahem sacked Tiphsah and all who were in it and its territory from Tirzah on, because they did not open it to him. Therefore he sacked it, and he ripped open all the women in it who were pregnant.”
Shallum wanted what he wanted and he didn’t respect anyone else. He wanted to be king so he killed Zechariah. But The Lord did not let him remain in his position. He stole the kingship, it was not his appointing. He used a man even more evil than Shallum to dispatch him. Menahem also wanted what he wanted and he didn’t care what or who stood in his way. Rather than find another route, he pillaged Tiphsah and slaughtered every pregnant woman there. How evil can a man be? He became king in Shallum’s place instead of Shallum’s son. This king had ambitions and it didn’t matter to him if it aligned with God’s will at all. It doesn’t seem he cared what The Lord wanted. But of course that couldn’t stop God from accomplishing his will. Evil cannot stop The Lord. Verses 17-22 tell us about Menahem’s reign.
“In the thirty-ninth year of Azariah king of Judah, Menahem the son of Gadi began to reign over Israel, and he reigned ten years in Samaria. 18 And he did what was evil in the sight of the Lord. He did not depart all his days from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which he made Israel to sin. 19 Pul the king of Assyria came against the land, and Menahem gave Pul a thousand talents of silver, that he might help him to confirm his hold on the royal power. 20 Menahem exacted the money from Israel, that is, from all the wealthy men, fifty shekels of silver from every man, to give to the king of Assyria. So the king of Assyria turned back and did not stay there in the land. 21 Now the rest of the deeds of Menahem and all that he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel? 22 And Menahem slept with his fathers, and Pekahiah his son reigned in his place.”
The Lord doesn’t negotiate with the enemy. Dark and light have no fellowship together. 1 Corinthians 10:19-22 reads,
“What do I imply then? That food offered to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything? 20 No, I imply that what pagans sacrifice they offer to demons and not to God. I do not want you to be participants with demons. 21 You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons. 22 Shall we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he?”
God never once told Israel to compromise with her enemies, He ordered them to fight them and overtake them. But Menahem didn’t want to fight a war and risk his life so chose to pay his way out of a war with Assyria. He didn’t use the royal treasury, he didn’t dip into his own money. He extorted the money from the wealthy men of Israel and made them pay tribute to another nation and king. Verses 23-26 describe the next king.
“In the fiftieth year of Azariah king of Judah, Pekahiah the son of Menahem began to reign over Israel in Samaria, and he reigned two years. 24 And he did what was evil in the sight of the Lord. He did not turn away from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which he made Israel to sin. 25 And Pekah the son of Remaliah, his captain, conspired against him with fifty men of the people of Gilead, and struck him down in Samaria, in the citadel of the king's house with Argob and Arieh; he put him to death and reigned in his place. 26 Now the rest of the deeds of Pekahiah and all that he did, behold, they are written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel.”
Pekahiah’s reign was insignificant except for his continued evil. He and the kings before him did not seek The Lord, they sought power and wealth. They didn’t seek God’s glory, they sought their own. So rather than The Lord blessing them and letting son after son sit on the throne, he let them face the consequence of leading a nation to sin and seek power instead of Him. Pekahiah was assassinated by his captain who also wanted glory, power, and wealth. Verses 27-31 read,
“In the fifty-second year of Azariah king of Judah, Pekah the son of Remaliah began to reign over Israel in Samaria, and he reigned twenty years. 28 And he did what was evil in the sight of the Lord. He did not depart from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which he made Israel to sin.
29 In the days of Pekah king of Israel, Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria came and captured Ijon, Abel-beth-maacah, Janoah, Kedesh, Hazor, Gilead, and Galilee, all the land of Naphtali, and he carried the people captive to Assyria. 30 Then Hoshea the son of Elah made a conspiracy against Pekah the son of Remaliah and struck him down and put him to death and reigned in his place, in the twentieth year of Jotham the son of Uzziah. 31 Now the rest of the acts of Pekah and all that he did, behold, they are written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel.”
Menahem did not care about the future of Israel, only about himself and his comfort. He paid tribute to Assyria instead of fight Israel’s enemy. Pekahiah did nothing to rectify the situation. And so while Pekah was king, Assyria marched in and captured many of Israel’s cities. None of those kings cared about Israel or The Lord, only themselves. Israel had followed in Jeroboam’s twisted religion for so long they didn’t even know who God was anymore. We can’t serve money, power, or own glory and also serve The Lord. It is impossible. In Matthew 6:19-24 Jesus said it like this,
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
22 “The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, 23 but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!
24 “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.”
Had those kings pursued The Lord and sought to please Him instead of seeking their own kingdoms, He would have blessed them and given them and Israel everything they needed from protection to food and money (Matthew 6:33). The kings laid up treasures in their kingship instead of Heaven. Their treasures were stolen by the people who killed them. The enemies to whom they handed some of their treasure came in and stole more.
Verses 32-38 turn back to Judah and describe Jotham’s reign, which he inherited after his father Azariah died. He did not steal his kingship, The Lord gave it to him as He had promised David and his line. Jotham was not perfect, none of the kings were and he paid the consequences for the sins he committed. But The Lord still honored his faith.
“In the second year of Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, Jotham the son of Uzziah, king of Judah, began to reign. 33 He was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Jerusha the daughter of Zadok. 34 And he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, according to all that his father Uzziah had done.35 Nevertheless, the high places were not removed. The people still sacrificed and made offerings on the high places. He built the upper gate of the house of the Lord. 36 Now the rest of the acts of Jotham and all that he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? 37 In those days the Lord began to send Rezin the king of Syria and Pekah the son of Remaliah against Judah. 38 Jotham slept with his fathers and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father, and Ahaz his son reigned in his place.”
Believer, God is The LORD. He is able. His Word is Almighty because He is Almighty. You do not have to seek power, money, provision, or anything else as long as you seek the Kingdom of God and His righteousness.

2 Kings 5:15-27 Gehazi's Greed

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Matthew 6:33
2 Kings 5:15-27
Perhaps you remember yesterday’s devotional about Naaman being healed of leprosy. He was ecstatic to be free of that awful disease. Everything he had gone through and all that had brought him from Syria to Israel to Elisha’s doorstep had culminated in his professing his faith in The One True God, the God of Israel. That new love and commitment inspired him to respond. The best way he knew how was to give money to Elisha in order to pay him for being a prophet. Verses 15-18 read,
“Then he returned to the man of God, he and all his company, and he came and stood before him. And he said, “Behold, I know that there is no God in all the earth but in Israel; so accept now a present from your servant.” 16 But he said, “As the Lord lives, before whom I stand, I will receive none.” And he urged him to take it, but he refused. 17 Then Naaman said, “If not, please let there be given to your servant two mule loads of earth, for from now on your servant will not offer burnt offering or sacrifice to any god but the Lord. 18 In this matter may the Lord pardon your servant: when my master goes into the house of Rimmon to worship there, leaning on my arm, and I bow myself in the house of Rimmon, when I bow myself in the house of Rimmon, the Lord pardon your servant in this matter.”
Naaman was so grateful he wanted to pay Elisha but Elisha refused. He would not take money for what God had done. Taking money from Naaman would have been like Naaman buying his healing. It would sullied God’s gift to Naaman by making it a transaction. Elisha understood that when a faithful person gave to God his firstfruits, that God would give that to Him for his provision. He had no need for more. The faithful take care of the faithful in service to God. Naaman was not offering the money as a tithe to the LORD, he was offering to purchase the healing. So Elisha refused it and kept the act the gift from God it was meant to be.
Jesus explained it to the disciples as he sent them out to spread the Gospel in Matthew 10:7-11,
“And proclaim as you go, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ 8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons. You received without paying; give without pay. 9 Acquire no gold or silver or copper for your belts, 10 no bag for your journey, or two tunics or sandals or a staff, for the laborer deserves his food. 11 And whatever town or village you enter, find out who is worthy in it and stay there until you depart.”
Love for money and possessions can eat their way into the soul, especially if one’s faith is weakened or if a person is less mature in his walk with the LORD. The desire for money is a sign that he doesn’t trust God to be God. That desire is the basis for all kinds of sin. Paul said it like this in 1 Timothy 6:6-12,
“But godliness with contentment is great gain, 7 for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. 8 But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. 9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.
11 But as for you, O man of God, flee these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.”
We have to be deliberate about pursuing the kingdom of God. We have to be intentional about seeking the fruit of the Spirit and staying free from the pursuit of the material. Elisha’s servant Gehazi heard Naaman’s offer of money and he wanted it. Elisha only wanted to glorify God and sent Naaman home with his gift of peace with God. Verses 19-24 describe what happened,
“He said to him, “Go in peace.”
But when Naaman had gone from him a short distance, 20 Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, “See, my master has spared this Naaman the Syrian, in not accepting from his hand what he brought. As the Lord lives, I will run after him and get something from him.” 21 So Gehazi followed Naaman. And when Naaman saw someone running after him, he got down from the chariot to meet him and said, “Is all well?” 22 And he said, “All is well. My master has sent me to say, ‘There have just now come to me from the hill country of Ephraim two young men of the sons of the prophets. Please give them a talent of silver and two changes of clothing.’” 23 And Naaman said, “Be pleased to accept two talents.” And he urged him and tied up two talents of silver in two bags, with two changes of clothing, and laid them on two of his servants. And they carried them before Gehazi. 24 And when he came to the hill, he took them from their hand and put them in the house, and he sent the men away, and they departed.”
Gehazi chased Naaman down and told him an elaborate lie to get money from him. Naaman was happy to comply and give the man what he asked for. As Gehazi returned home, I wonder what went through his mind. He had to come up with more lies to explain his whereabouts. He probably imagined how he would spend his ill-gotten gains. I seriously wonder how he thought he might spend that money. He was Elisha’s servant, with him most of the day, every day. He wasn’t going to get a day off and meet his friends at the mall. He wasn’t going to be able to buy himself a new donkey, an iPhone 6s, or anything else without giving away his secret sin. He certainly was not thinking about how awesome God is and how God knew his sin and how close Elisha was to The Lord. He wasn’t thinking that God had already told Elisha what he had done. You cannot lie to The Holy Spirit. Verses 25-27 read,
“He went in and stood before his master, and Elisha said to him, “Where have you been, Gehazi?” And he said, “Your servant went nowhere.”26 But he said to him, “Did not my heart go when the man turned from his chariot to meet you? Was it a time to accept money and garments, olive orchards and vineyards, sheep and oxen, male servants and female servants? 27 Therefore the leprosy of Naaman shall cling to you and to your descendants forever.” So he went out from his presence a leper, like snow.”
Gehazi took payment for Naaman’s healing, so The Lord gave Gehazi Naaman’s leprosy. Gehazi disregarded God’s will over his own. He cheapened the beautiful gift of salvation by making it a business deal. Gehazi gained two talents of silver and four changes of clothing, he was rich. But he lost honor, health, and position.
Gehazi was with Elisha every day year after year. He heard God’s word spoken. He saw the greatness of God manifested repeatedly. He saw a hundred men fed on just a small amount of food, he saw a boy raised from the dead, poisoned stew purified, toxic water cleansed, and dry land flood all at God’s word. But the desire for money slipped in and took over. He chased Naaman’s riches instead of God’s glory. He got the money he sought and lost the kingdom of Heaven. If the love of money could infect his heart in can infect anyone’s heart.
Believer, be careful, be diligent. Fight the good fight and seek the Kingdom of God and His righteousness. Let God be God for you. He is El Shaddai, All Sufficient LORD.

Proverbs 11 Pursuing Wealth or God, Which is the Wiser Choice?

Proverbs 11
Last night in church we heard a message based on the first three of the beatitudes of Matthew 5. I had recently gone through the beatitudes on two different occasions. One gave me a message very similar to the one I heard last night, the other was very different. The Holy Spirit enhances, speaks, and communicates different things to each of us when we read the word. He will even teach us different things when we read the same passages on different occasions.
That is the case especially with books like Proverbs. We must read it very personally, and ask God to reveal to us what He will. There are so many wonderful thing to teach us. Having just completed Revelation, I was unsure what book to begin today, but God told me to write today’s devotional on today’s chapter of Proverbs, so here it is, with what He highlighted for me.
Verses 1-7 read,
“A false balance is an abomination to the Lord,
    but a just weight is his delight.
2 When pride comes, then comes disgrace,
    but with the humble is wisdom.
3 The integrity of the upright guides them,
    but the crookedness of the treacherous destroys them.
4 Riches do not profit in the day of wrath,
    but righteousness delivers from death.
5 The righteousness of the blameless keeps his way straight,
    but the wicked falls by his own wickedness.
6 The righteousness of the upright delivers them,
    but the treacherous are taken captive by their lust.
7 When the wicked dies, his hope will perish,
    and the expectation of wealth perishes too.

A false balance is what the dishonest use to cheat people from their money. It says that what they are selling is worth more than what it is. It is a lie in pursuit of wealth. It can be very tempting to pursue money rather than God. It is tempting to seek our own provision rather than depending on God for His.
But seeking money over the Lord leads to destruction. If instead of letting God be God, asking for help and saying “I need you Lord,” we rely on ourselves we become proud, we give a false impression to the world that we do not need God and neither do they. Dependency on God will provide our every need for us. When he was talking about seeking our own provision and wealth, Jesus said, “Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’  For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” (Matthew 6:31-34).
Money may help us here and now, but on The Day of the Lord, it will not save us. We can’t buy our way into the Lamb’s Book of Life. Only Jesus can write our name there and only His blood can be the payment to make us righteous. Pursuing money leads to pride, pride will make us one of the wicked. Pursuing God leads to humility and that brings righteousness.
Once we begin looking for the material things, we want more and more of them. My phone recently broke. I had an iPhone 4. I bought it used with a broken screen, little space, and some problems. Now that it is broken I need to replace it, I could replace it with a perfectly working iPhone 4 for very cheap. But what do I want? I want the new iPhone (or at least a newer one). I want the bells and whistles. I want it pretty. I do not need that, but I desire it. If I pursue that phone, I’ll probably get it and feel pretty good about myself. I might cheat someone to get it. But if I just continue diligently seeking God and seeking to be transformed, to work out my salvation with fear and trembling (Philippians 2:12), then I can trust God knows what I need and He will provide it. I know from experience, my Father in Heaven enjoys showering me with blessings. He loves to give me good things. He knows I need a phone, He will provide one. He knows what you need. If you seek Him rather than your needs, He will provide your needs as a matter of course.
So what is seeking the Kingdom of God? It is striving for God, His character, His mind, and His will. That means I want to glorify Him by manifesting the fruit of the Spirit, wearing the armor of God, and seeking wisdom and discernment.
How important is money to you? I can tell you it is pretty important to me. I do not want it to be. It is a real effort to not seek money, to not want all the things money can buy, and not to go nuts thinking how I can get myself all the things I want. Right now the Powerball is 1.3 billion dollars. If it stayed there (but we know it will grow) a single winner could spend $71,2328.76 each day for 5 years before spending it all. The pursuit of that kind of money can make our heads spin. I was in the 7-11 Saturday night and the line of people there to buy their chance at the dream of that kind of money was long and chaotic. They were blinded by the dollar signs in their eyes. I can be blinded by that kind of lust too, if I do not keep my flesh in check and let God’s Spirit reign.
I have to make The Lord and His desires my priority. I have to want what He wants and remember that He wants good things for me, and that what He wants for me is ultimately better than what I want for me (Matthew 7:11, Psalm 40:5,). Psalm 84:11 says,
“For the Lord God is a sun and shield;
    the Lord bestows favor and honor.
No good thing does he withhold
    from those who walk uprightly.”

Proverbs 3:13-18 says it this way,
“Blessed is the one who finds wisdom,
    and the one who gets understanding,
14 for the gain from her is better than gain from silver
    and her profit better than gold.
15 She is more precious than jewels,
    and nothing you desire can compare with her.
16 Long life is in her right hand;
    in her left hand are riches and honor.
17 Her ways are ways of pleasantness,
    and all her paths are peace.
18 She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her;
    those who hold her fast are called blessed.”

Seeking God must include seeking wisdom. Pursuing Him is better than pursuing wealth and when we seek Him, we get wisdom, long life (health, healing, and abundant living) first and riches and honor! Seriously! Getting rich doesn’t guarantee health or honor. But God is our Healer, our Provider, and our All-Sufficient.
Seeking money just leads us further and further down the path of wickedness. First we are willing to charge a little more than we should for an item or withhold some the firstfruits from God. Next we withhold from the needy brother or the hungry widow. Then what are we willing to do, lie, steal, or hurt? Who are we willing to hurt to get what we want? Our testimony is destroyed by a life chasing money instead of God. Our destroyed testimony can send a person down the path to Hell.
Verses 8-9 read,
“The righteous is delivered from trouble,
    and the wicked walks into it instead.
9 With his mouth the godless man would destroy his neighbor,
    but by knowledge the righteous are delivered.”

We know being Christ-like has eternal benefits but it also benefits us now. It benefits us and the many people watching how we live our lives. Verses 23-31 read,
“The desire of the righteous ends only in good;
    the expectation of the wicked in wrath.
24 One gives freely, yet grows all the richer;
    another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want.
25 Whoever brings blessing will be enriched,
    and one who waters will himself be watered.
26 The people curse him who holds back grain,
    but a blessing is on the head of him who sells it.
27 Whoever diligently seeks good seeks favor,
    but evil comes to him who searches for it.
28 Whoever trusts in his riches will fall,
    but the righteous will flourish like a green leaf.
29 Whoever troubles his own household will inherit the wind,
    and the fool will be servant to the wise of heart.
30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life,
    and whoever captures souls is wise.
31 If the righteous is repaid on earth,
    how much more the wicked and the sinner!”

So go ahead, feel free to stop trying to get rich, meet all your own needs, or worry about money. Seek God and His kingdom. Be like Jesus and enjoy the benefits of a rich full life that leads to life for all those around you.

Psalm 119:25-32 My Soul Clings to Sin and Death or to Jesus and Life

Psalm 119:25-32

We are human. We know it. We use it as an excuse for our bad behavior often enough. God knows it too. That is why He sent Jesus, His perfect Son to be the Way for us to reconcile with Him in peace. We are human, but we do not have to settle for the corruption of our flesh. We may be human but as believers we have the Perfect Holy Spirit living in us. We don’t have to let our flesh win. Verses 25-26 read,

“My soul clings to the dust;
    give me life according to your word!
26 When I told of my ways, you answered me;
    teach me your statutes!”

Our souls cling to dust. It is often easier to give in to the flesh. It is easier to have immediate gratification and forget about eternity. But like the psalmist, we can acknowledge the state of our sin nature and ask God to give us life in Jesus. When we confess and repent as we tell The Lord how sinful, helpless, and hopeless we are, He forgives, He gives us His Spirit, and He teaches us His way.

Some are still stagnant, some still cling to our old dead selves. Some do not realize it is a choice to be the new creation God has made us. Colossians 3:1-5 says,

“If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. 3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

5 Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry”

How do we do that? How do we choose to put to death the earthly things, the dustiness of our old selves? First, we have to set our minds on Christ, The Kingdom of Heaven, and God’s righteousness. (Matthew 6:33). But how can we put our minds on The Kingdom of Heaven? How do we know what it is that is of Christ or of the world? How do we seek God? Verses 27-8 read,

“Make me understand the way of your precepts,
    and I will meditate on your wondrous works.
28 My soul melts away for sorrow;
    strengthen me according to your word!”

We get to know God through His Word, the Scriptures, The Truth revealed through The Holy Spirit and demonstrated through Jesus Christ. The psalmist asked God to make him understand. The Holy Spirit allows us to understand the Scriptures and reveals the secrets that those without Him cannot understand. (Ephesians 3:1-6). We can speak until we are blue in the face and the world will think we are crazy. They call the Bible a lie, Jesus a crutch, and believers weak minded. But we know the truth because we have the Spirit of Truth. 1 Corinthians 1:18-25 says,

“For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written,

“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise,
    and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.”

20 Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe. 22 For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, 23 but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, 24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.”

Verse 29 reads,

“Put false ways far from me
    and graciously teach me your law!”

God gives us discernment. His Holy Spirit distinguishes truth from lies, dark from light, and Godly from earthly. God’s Word, Jesus Christ has given us His mind as the Spirit transforms us to Jesus image, we as spiritual and not fleshly beings, are able to discern those things too. (1 Corinthians 2:14-16). God’s written Word also allows us to discern those things. (Hebrews 4:12). That discernment keeps us away from false doctrines. 1 John 4:5-6 tells us,

“They are from the world; therefore they speak from the world, and the world listens to them. 6 We are from God. Whoever knows God listens to us; whoever is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of error.”

Discernment is not only an act of the mind, but it permeates the heart. We come not only to recognize what is from God and what is not, but we come to love what is from God, and that affects the way we live our lives. (Romans 12:9-11). Verses 30-32 read,

“I have chosen the way of faithfulness;
    I set your rules before me.
31 I cling to your testimonies, O Lord;
    let me not be put to shame!
32 I will run in the way of your commandments
    when you enlarge my heart!”

Yes, we are human but we have The Spirit of Truth in us transforming us, maturing us, and making us more and more like Jesus every day if we choose to let Him. Believer, encourage you to set the Word of God before you. Cling to God’s testaments, the truth of God’s will and love demonstrated for you. Cling to eternal life rather than your dead past. Let God make you over into Jesus’ image and grow your love, your spirit, your soul, your mind, and your ministry.

Zephaniah 1 God Warns us for a Reason.

Zephaniah Chapter 1

Do you ever wonder why God warned people about imminent events? He sent prophets to His people time and again, sometimes they listened and sometimes they didn’t. Sometimes as in the case of Jonah and Nineveh, the people listened and heeded the message. (Jonah 3:6-10). But more often they did not pay attention to The Word of God. But the Lord is Just and He always makes a way for salvation.

Zephaniah was a prophet to Judah and Jerusalem during the days of King Josiah. He had a royal lineage, his great great grandfather was King Hezekiah. (Verse 1). In this chapter God warned Judah and Jerusalem about the upcoming Chaldean invasion. King Josiah was a good King who sought the Lord and who made sweeping changes to rid the nation of Idolatry. (2 Kings 22-23). Perhaps he listened to Zephaniah. We know he listened to other prophets. (2 Kings 22:14).

Verses 2-6 read,

“I will utterly sweep away everything
    from the face of the earth,” declares the Lord.
3 “I will sweep away man and beast;
    I will sweep away the birds of the heavens
    and the fish of the sea,
and the rubble with the wicked.
    I will cut off mankind
    from the face of the earth,” declares the Lord.
4 “I will stretch out my hand against Judah
    and against all the inhabitants of Jerusalem;
and I will cut off from this place the remnant of Baal
    and the name of the idolatrous priests along with the priests,
5 those who bow down on the roofs
    to the host of the heavens,
those who bow down and swear to the Lord
    and yet swear by Milcom,
6 those who have turned back from following the Lord,
    who do not seek the Lord or inquire of him.”

Josiah’s father was Amon, he was a very wicked king like his father Manasseh who brought lots of idol worship and evil to Judah and Jerusalem. (2 Kings 21:19-26). The Lord is a Jealous God. (Exodus 34:14). He wants nothing else between us and Him. He wants our entre heart, not the small part remnant that isn’t taken up with the flesh. Deuteronomy 6:5 reads,

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.”

When Jesus quoted this scripture, He took it one step further. Luke 10:27 says,

“And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”

Jesus added that we are to love the Lord with our minds as well as our heart, soul, and strength. Our minds can get so busy, so cluttered with to-do lists, entertainment, and work. Those things, even seemingly good things can take God’s place in our minds, hearts, service, and spirit. Ask yourself, are you so busy doing God’s work that you are putting that ministry above The Lord? Are we heeding the Truth of the Word of God? Are we listening, trusting, and obeying Him? Is our disregard for The Lord’s message causing us to be disciplined?

The Day of the Lord is near. He is coming. His judgement is perfect. He has warned us. Are we heeding the warning? Verses 7-9 read,

“Be silent before the Lord God!
    For the day of the Lord is near;
the Lord has prepared a sacrifice
    and consecrated his guests.
8 And on the day of the Lord's sacrifice--
“I will punish the officials and the king's sons
    and all who array themselves in foreign attire.
9 On that day I will punish
    everyone who leaps over the threshold,
and those who fill their master's house
    with violence and fraud.”

Many who claim to be Christians, do not actually worship The Lord God Almighty. They worship a god they created, who has an outlook similar to their own. He is not named Jealous, or Lord of Hosts, or Justice. He is love, but not Agape. He is requires no repentance. And he lets them do anything they please or he requires strict adherence to rules. But whoever it is they worship, it is not The One True and Living God. They jumped the threshold and think they have entered the church but they have only entered the building. They’ve tried to steal salvation when Jesus already paid for it and is giving it away. They will be sadly shocked when The Day of Lord arrives. They will cry out “Lord, Lord! Wasn’t I a good Christian? Look at all the work I did for you!” but God knows they do not submit to Him. He knows they are idolaters. He’ll reply, “Go away, your work was for evil, I never had a friendship with you.” (Matthew 7:22-23).

Verses 14-16 read,

“The great day of the Lord is near,
    near and hastening fast;
the sound of the day of the Lord is bitter;
    the mighty man cries aloud there.
15 A day of wrath is that day,
    a day of distress and anguish,
a day of ruin and devastation,
    a day of darkness and gloom,
a day of clouds and thick darkness,
16     a day of trumpet blast and battle cry
against the fortified cities
    and against the lofty battlements.”

To the lost, The Day will come suddenly and swiftly. To the saved who have paid attention to the warnings and signs, it will come exactly on time. We do not know the day or hour but we now the season. We know the signs. We have time to prepare. We have time to warn people and give them a chance to repent and call on Jesus as Lord and Savior. Matthew 24:36-44 reads,

“But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only. 37 For as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, 39 and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 40 Then two men will be in the field; one will be taken and one left. 41 Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one left. 42 Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. 43 But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into. 44 Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”

Nothing and no one can save except Jesus Christ, The Lord of lords and King of kings. All the money in the world won’t do anyone any good on The Day of the Lord. It won’t matter if you’ve memorized the entre Bible if you do not take it to heart. It won’t matter how strong you are or who the president is. You can look everywhere for salvation, but you will only find Him in Jesus. Verses 17-18 read,

“I will bring distress on mankind,
    so that they shall walk like the blind,
    because they have sinned against the Lord;
their blood shall be poured out like dust,
    and their flesh like dung.
18 Neither their silver nor their gold
    shall be able to deliver them
    on the day of the wrath of the Lord.
In the fire of his jealousy,
    all the earth shall be consumed;
for a full and sudden end
    he will make of all the inhabitants of the earth.”

Don’t waste your life worrying about your money, your goodness, your strength, or your pleasure. Spend your time investing in eternity. Be concerned with The Kingdom of Heaven, God’s wealth, Jesus’ righteousness, The Lord’s power, and His joy. In Matthew 6:19-21 Jesus said it this way,

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

A few verses further He told us we didn’t have to worry about all the earthly stuff. Matthew 6:32-34 reads,

“For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

34 “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

Ezekiel 6 Who Do You Love First? What are your Priorities?

2/13/2015

Ezekiel Chapter 6

Israel has a long history of worshipping the gods of other nations. For as long as they sought other gods, The LORD has warned them against it, taken action to discipline them, and hated it. God is a jealous God. He hates idolatry. He detests when His children put anything in front of Him. He is the One and Only God.

Idolatry is, in its simplest definition worship of or devotion to something other than Adonai. The first commandment God handed down to Moses said,

“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.

3 “You shall have no other gods before me.

4 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. 5 You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.”

This is the only one commandment of the ten that came with a promise of punishment for those who broke it and a promise of reward for those who kept it. God takes our relationship with Him seriously and He wants the same fidelity returned.

The sixth chapter of Ezekiel speaks about Israel’s idolatry and what God would do to them because of it. Even the land showed signs of Israel’s idolatry. Verses 1-4 read,

“The word of the Lord came to me: 2 “Son of man, set your face toward the mountains of Israel, and prophesy against them, 3 and say, You mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord God! Thus says the Lord God to the mountains and the hills, to the ravines and the valleys: Behold, I, even I, will bring a sword upon you, and I will destroy your high places. 4 Your altars shall become desolate, and your incense altars shall be broken, and I will cast down your slain before your idols.”

God destroyed the altars, the high places, and every place of worship for false gods. And since those gods didn’t exist except in the minds of the worshippers, they were annihilated. The people too were killed and strewed before the altars like sacrifices. Why would God do that? Because He loves His people and wants a pure relationship with His children. Verse 7 reads,

“And the slain shall fall in your midst, and you shall know that I am the Lord.”

But not all the people would be destroyed. The Lord scattered remaining Israel among the nations. Verses 9-10 read,

“then those of you who escape will remember me among the nations where they are carried captive, how I have been broken over their whoring heart that has departed from me and over their eyes that go whoring after their idols. And they will be loathsome in their own sight for the evils that they have committed, for all their abominations. 10 And they shall know that I am the Lord. I have not said in vain that I would do this evil to them.”

God not only hates idolatry, but He wants us to hate it too. He wants us to be just as angered at the thought of something coming between Him and us as He is. He wants to be not only a priority but THE priority. We have so many excuses for letting things get in the way of our relationship with The Father, our jobs, our families, even our service. We have to make money and provide. We have to do this or that or will not get done. But God is God! He is All-Powerful, Wonderful, Awesome, and LORD. He promised us this in Matthew 6:31-34

“Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

34 “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

If we seek God first, He’ll take care of the rest. God knows we need clothes and food. God knows we love our families. God knows we want security and shelter. Don’t we trust Him enough to be God?

God’s love for us is passionate. His love burns eternally and fervently. His anger is also passionate. He is slow to anger but He does get angry. One day His wrath will be shown so the whole world will know it. The Day of Judgment is coming. Do not be caught on that day with anyone or anything but Jesus Christ in the throne of your life.

Examine your heart and life. Is there something you are devoted to that takes precedence in your life? Is it your career, family, lifestyle, reputation, or ministry? Is it a sports team, celebrity, or hobby? Whatever it is, take it out of God’s throne before God decides it is time to let you know He is the LORD. Go ahead and trust Him to be God.

1 John 2:15-17 Don't Love the World. Love God.

1 John Chapter 2 Verses 15-17

Verse 15 reads,

“Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”

This statement doesn’t mean “Do not do good for the world” or “Do not love the world the way God loves them.” It means not to prefer the world, its people, its decoration and its stuff. It means not to choose the world over God or your fellow believers. If you would rather have what the world offers you, then you do not love the Father. Although God created the world, it is fallen and it is now broken and filled with sin. You can seek after sin and self-satisfaction or you can seek righteousness and the Kingdom of God. Verse 16 reads,

“For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world.”

Choosing the world means you would rather look good to them than to God. You would rather gratify your flesh than please God. But Believer, when you seek God first and foremost, everything else, your needs and your desires fall into place and He meets them.

Matthew 6:31-33 reads,

 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

And Psalm 37:1-6 reads,

“Fret not yourself because of evildoers;
    be not envious of wrongdoers!
2 For they will soon fade like the grass
    and wither like the green herb.

3 Trust in the Lord, and do good;
    dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.
4 Delight yourself in the Lord,
    and he will give you the desires of your heart.

5 Commit your way to the Lord;
    trust in him, and he will act.
6 He will bring forth your righteousness as the light,
    and your justice as the noonday.”

If you are chasing after carnal pleasure, worldly needs, or the acceptance of the lost you are not chasing God and His Kingdom or will. God promised He’s got all that! He’ll take care of the worldly stuff and you are then free to pursue Him. You are at liberty to align your nature with His nature as a son of God. He’ll fulfil your desires. Your yearning will be for righteousness and virtue. Your longing will be to be like Jesus. And Jesus said He will satiate your hunger and thirst for righteousness. (Matthew 5:6).

The world isn’t going to last forever. God will eradicate sin. This present earth will burn up into oblivion. But you, Believer are promised eternal life. You are assured eternity. Verse 17 says it like this.

 “And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.”

Revelation 21:1-5 describes eternity this way,

“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. 2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. 4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

This present life is short. Maybe it seems long now. Maybe your suffering seems like it is too much and will last forever. But the 90 years we have on earth is nothing, it is a moment in comparison to forever. Keep your eyes on Jesus. Keep your heart on God. Seek Him. Pursue Love. Let God be your God. Rest in Him. Stay in His Righteousness.

    Donna Campbell

    As I read the Bible every day, I take what God teaches me, what He says, and write it out. I then share that with you. It gives me a deeper understanding of the Word and I hope that it will encourage you as it does me, to put your love and faith into action.
