Revelation 12
This chapter is one filled with symbolic imagery that if read without the Holy Spirit only leaves us with questions or confusion. To be understood, we have to interpret it through the Holy Spirit. 1 Corinthians 2:9-13 tell us,
“But, as it is written,
“What no eye has seen, nor ear heard,
nor the heart of man imagined,
what God has prepared for those who love him”--

10 these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. 11 For who knows a person's thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God. 13 And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual.”
Verses 1-6 begin the chapter,
“And a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. 2 She was pregnant and was crying out in birth pains and the agony of giving birth. 3 And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great red dragon, with seven heads and ten horns, and on his heads seven diadems. 4 His tail swept down a third of the stars of heaven and cast them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, so that when she bore her child he might devour it. 5 She gave birth to a male child, one who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron, but her child was caught up to God and to his throne, 6 and the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, in which she is to be nourished for 1,260 days.”
Who is this woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars? Let’s look into God’s word for the answer. Genesis 37:9-10 is one of Joseph’s prophetic dreams and Jacob’s correct interpretation of it.
“Then he dreamed another dream and told it to his brothers and said, “Behold, I have dreamed another dream. Behold, the sun, the moon, and eleven stars were bowing down to me.” 10 But when he told it to his father and to his brothers, his father rebuked him and said to him, “What is this dream that you have dreamed? Shall I and your mother and your brothers indeed come to bow ourselves to the ground before you?”
This woman represents Israel, God’s chosen people, His children. She was pregnant. Pregnancy is filled with expectation of the birth, the completion of the pregnancy and the promise of new life realized. Israel had been promised a savior. They waited expectantly for the promise to be fulfilled and when Mary gave birth to Jesus in Bethlehem the City of David, that promise and the prophecy were delivered. The son that the woman, Israel gave birth to is Jesus. He is described several times in scripture as the one who will rule all the nations. He is also associated with an iron scepter or rod, which represents sovereign rule (Revelation 2:27, Psalm 2:9).
Jesus is described beautifully in Revelation 19:11-16 as He comes to claim His Bride (those of us who believe, follow, and worship Him).
“Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war.12 His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows but himself. 13 He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God.14 And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses. 15 From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. 16 On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.”
Verse 15 of that passage makes it clear that the male child, the descendent of Judah (who is also linked to the scepter in Genesis 49:10) the son of Israel is Jesus our Messiah. He is the long awaited savior, the perfect satisfaction of the law and the prophets.
Satan knew that Jesus was bad news for his purposes. He wants to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). He is prowling around like a lion looking to devour Christ and His followers (1 Peter 5:8). He does not want the Kingdom of Heaven to prevail because that will end his reign. So he kept an eye open for the signs and when he saw that the savior came into the world, he sought to devour Him. Just as through Pharaoh he tried to stop Israel from being delivered from Egypt to their Promised Land (Exodus 1:22), he tried through Herod to stop the Christ from delivering the world to The Kingdom of God by killing all the male children (Matthew 2:16). Satan worked hard to have Jesus killed. He once again used the governing authorities, the religious leaders and the rulers of Rome and Jerusalem to crucify Jesus (1 Corinthians 2:8). But Jesus laid down His life willingly. John 10:17-18 says it,
“For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life that I may take it up again. 18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father.”
Jesus gave up His life on the cross, but on the third day He took it up again! He defeated Satan’s plan and was and is and will be the Savior and Deliverer of mankind. Then He ascended to Heaven and Satan couldn’t hurt Him. The dragon is Satan and John states this in verse 9. Verses 7-9 read,
“Now war arose in heaven, Michael and his angels fighting against the dragon. And the dragon and his angels fought back, 8 but he was defeated, and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. 9 And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.”
Satan couldn’t hurt Jesus so turned to Israel and to the church. He seeks to destroy us through any means. But God prepared Israel. He protects us and keeps us safe. God’s angels fight Satan’s army on our account. Satan has dominion of the earth. His minions work with him full time to deceive the world and keep as many as possible from being delivered by Jesus.
Believer, you and I are not helpless or inactive in this war. Jesus didn’t deliver us so that we could sit in a pew and idly watch the world follow their prince to Hell. Verses 10-12 describe our role.
“And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, “Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God. 11 And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death. 12 Therefore, rejoice, O heavens and you who dwell in them! But woe to you, O earth and sea, for the devil has come down to you in great wrath, because he knows that his time is short!”
Satan accuses us, but we know he is the deceiver. We do not believe him. We know Satan and his demons are conquered. How are they conquered? They are overpowered and defeated by the forgiving blood of Jesus and the word of our testimony, because we love Jesus more than our lives, more than the world our possessions, jobs, and families. It is in our deliberate living out our testimony and salvation, willing to give up everything for Christ that Satan loses. He loses the blind hordes who follow him when their eyes are opened to the Truth. We are very active members of God’s army. Salvation does not give us a ticket to sit down and observe, it empowers us to exalt Jesus and show the world the deliverance they so desperately need and that God wants so much for them. Philippians 2:9-13 says it this way,
“Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.”
Satan sees his inevitable defeat but realizing that he cannot beat Jesus he seeks to conquer and crush us instead. Verses 13-16 describe Satan’s change from trying to destroy Israel and therefore Jesus to trying to destroy Jesus’ Bride the church.
“And when the dragon saw that he had been thrown down to the earth, he pursued the woman who had given birth to the male child.14 But the woman was given the two wings of the great eagle so that she might fly from the serpent into the wilderness, to the place where she is to be nourished for a time, and times, and half a time.15 The serpent poured water like a river out of his mouth after the woman, to sweep her away with a flood. 16 But the earth came to the help of the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed the river that the dragon had poured from his mouth.”
The woman who represented Israel transformed. She was given two wings of the great eagle in order to flee the serpent Satan. Those wings are God Himself carrying Israel to safety. They are the complete and triune God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, delivering Israel as Jesus, nurturing her as The Spirit, and protecting her as The Father. Exodus 19:4-6 says,
“You yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles' wings and brought you to myself. 5 Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession among all peoples, for all the earth is mine; 6 and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. These are the words that you shall speak to the people of Israel.”
This transformation of the woman also eludes to Believers grafted into the nation of Israel saved by the LORD. Note the description in Exodus 19:6 as a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. Compare that to 1 Peter 2:9 as Peter tells believers who we are.
“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”
The timeline is multifaceted are so many events in the Bible. There are two periods of 1,260 days in this chapter. In one aspect they represent the history of Israel’s birth to Jesus birth and then from Jesus first coming as Savior to His second coming as Faithful and True Ruler and Judge of all nations with the iron rod in His hand. But is also refers to the seven years of tribulation the first 3 ½ years in which people are warned and called described n Revelation chapter 1-11 and the second 3 ½ years in which the enmity of Satan against God’s people is blatant, the war is fought openly and those who listened to the call are kept and protected by God as described in Revelation chapters 13-18.
Satan tries to be like God by copying Him. He deceives through his pale mirroring of God. Jesus is the Lion of Judah and the devil prowls like a lion (1 Peter 5:8). Jesus is the King of kings (1 Timothy 6:15) and Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6) and Satan is the prince of the power of the air (Ephesians 2:2). God is the Holy Spirit at work in His Children (Titus 3:5). Satan is the spirit at work in the sons of disobedience (Ephesians 2:2). In these verses in Revelation Satan pours water from his mouth like a river. The river coming from his mouth like a weapon is not the River of Life coming from Jesus described in Revelation 22:1. He wants it to be a river of death to destroy God’s people. But the devil’s weapons are futile against God! How can anything God created destroy Him, His plan, or His children? Isaiah 54:16-17 reads,
“Behold, I have created the smith
who blows the fire of coals
and produces a weapon for its purpose.
I have also created the ravager to destroy;
17     no weapon that is fashioned against you shall succeed,
and you shall refute every tongue that rises against you in judgment.
This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord
and their vindication from me, declares the Lord.”

God created the earth and the imagery of verse 16 in this chapter shows Him using His creation to defeat Satan. Satan spews a river but God swallows it up and makes it useless to swallow up His children. Verse 17 reads,
“Then the dragon became furious with the woman and went off to make war on the rest of her offspring, on those who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus. And he stood on the sand of the sea.”
Like a spoiled child Satan’s anger turns to fury. In his rage he makes war on Israel and the church, God’s olive trees and lampstands. In chapter 13 we read what will happen as the second half of the seven years begins with Satan standing with his foot on the shore of the sea in order to fight with every ounce of his rage in his final temper tantrum.
Believer, be encouraged. Satan hates you, but his hate is nothing compared to God’s love. Satan’s fury cannot stand up to God’s wrath. You are an active participant in this ongoing war and you are on the winning side. You are protected and the brat prince’s weapons are nothing against the armor of Christ.

Ezekiel 38 & 39 God destroys Gog

Ezekiel Chapters 38 & 39

Chapter 38 begins a prophecy against Gog, of the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal. Gog doesn’t sound like a really great guy, he has an evil plan. In the prophecy the Lord says God will attack Israel when she is living securely. Gog and his vast army will not attack the military but the homes in order to steal and rob. But God has a plan too. Verses 14-16 read,

“Therefore, son of man, prophesy, and say to Gog, Thus says the Lord God: On that day when my people Israel are dwelling securely, will you not know it? 15 You will come from your place out of the uttermost parts of the north, you and many peoples with you, all of them riding on horses, a great host, a mighty army. 16 You will come up against my people Israel, like a cloud covering the land. In the latter days I will bring you against my land, that the nations may know me, when through you, O Gog, I vindicate my holiness before their eyes.”

Verses 19-23 describe more.

“For in my jealousy and in my blazing wrath I declare, On that day there shall be a great earthquake in the land of Israel. 20 The fish of the sea and the birds of the heavens and the beasts of the field and all creeping things that creep on the ground, and all the people who are on the face of the earth, shall quake at my presence. And the mountains shall be thrown down, and the cliffs shall fall, and every wall shall tumble to the ground. 21 I will summon a sword against Gog on all my mountains, declares the Lord God. Every man's sword will be against his brother. 22 With pestilence and bloodshed I will enter into judgment with him, and I will rain upon him and his hordes and the many peoples who are with him torrential rains and hailstones, fire and sulfur. 23 So I will show my greatness and my holiness and make myself known in the eyes of many nations. Then they will know that I am the Lord.”

Chapter 39 continues to describe God’s wrath against Gog and his army. He says that they will be completely destroyed. It will take seven months to bury the dead and cleanse the land and even then they will still find the occasional bone to be buried. The dead will become a sacrificial feast for the birds and the beasts. There will be no more high places, no more false altars, and no more idolatry.(Verses 11-20).

Verses 7-8 read,

“And my holy name I will make known in the midst of my people Israel, and I will not let my holy name be profaned anymore. And the nations shall know that I am the Lord, the Holy One in Israel. 8 Behold, it is coming and it will be brought about, declares the Lord God. That is the day of which I have spoken.”

What day is it that is coming? The battle Ezekiel prophesied about is during the Great Tribulation. Men, led by Satan will bring war against God’s people, not for military purposes but for evil’s sake. But the Lord will not allow that war to continue forever. He will end it. He will bring that earthquake, He will send pestilence, bloodshed, fire and sulfur and they will be judged.

God’s people will not need their weapons. Verses 9-10 read,

“Then those who dwell in the cities of Israel will go out and make fires of the weapons and burn them, shields and bucklers, bow and arrows, clubs and spears; and they will make fires of them for seven years, 10 so that they will not need to take wood out of the field or cut down any out of the forests, for they will make their fires of the weapons. They will seize the spoil of those who despoiled them, and plunder those who plundered them, declares the Lord God.”

During the Tribulation, God’s children will not have to resort to violence. God will be caring for them completely. They will not have to worry about what has been stolen from them, God will restore it to them. It will be a terrible time. People will turn to fighting, brutality, and all sorts of maliciousness. Those things will seem right to them. But God’s children will not rely on that, because they will know that He is the LORD and He has them, He is caring for them. It is true during the Tribulation and it is true now, no matter what you face. You do not have to fall back on worldly solutions, God has got you, Believer.

He promises this restoration to Israel in verses 25-29

“Therefore thus says the Lord God: Now I will restore the fortunes of Jacob and have mercy on the whole house of Israel, and I will be jealous for my holy name. 26 They shall forget their shame and all the treachery they have practiced against me, when they dwell securely in their land with none to make them afraid, 27 when I have brought them back from the peoples and gathered them from their enemies' lands, and through them have vindicated my holiness in the sight of many nations. 28 Then they shall know that I am the Lord their God, because I sent them into exile among the nations and then assembled them into their own land. I will leave none of them remaining among the nations anymore. 29 And I will not hide my face anymore from them, when I pour out my Spirit upon the house of Israel, declares the Lord God.”

Believer, you do not have anything to worry about. There may be many stressors in your life, but you can trust God to take care of them. You don’t have to turn to what the world turns to. You may have many people who hate you, who want bad for you just because you belong to God and refuse to conform to political correctness. You don’t have to fight them. You don’t have to hate them back. God will deal with them. He knows their plans, you know God’s plans.

Ezekiel Chapter 11 Don't Believe Anyone Who Says God Doesn't Judge

Ezekiel Chapter 11

How often have you been told God doesn’t judge, or God wouldn’t send anyone to Hell? How often do you hear people say the End Times are far off, the Tribulation isn’t our concern, or even that the End of Days is just a fantasy? The people spreading those lies may full-well believe them, but they are dangerous and lead people into an illusory life following an imaginary god all the way to Hell.

The Lord had something to say to those kind of people in Ezekiel’s day and it stands true today as well. When any of us claim to speak God’s words, wisdom, or advice we ought to be very sure we are speaking the truth and not what the people want to hear. We don’t tell our children it is okay to play on the highway just because we do not want to upset them, and we don’t want to tell others that the consequences of sin are anything but death just so they will still like us. It is more important to tell them the truth because God loves them and wants them to know Him and live.

In Jerusalem the leaders were telling people that Jerusalem was safe, beyond God’s reproach, and His judgments were far off in the future and had no effect on them. The Lord had worse judgments in mind for those people. They thought Jerusalem was their protection and taught that people could ignore God’s statutes, words, and warnings. Verses 8-12 record some of the Lord’s response to them.

“You have feared the sword, and I will bring the sword upon you, declares the Lord God. 9 And I will bring you out of the midst of it, and give you into the hands of foreigners, and execute judgments upon you. 10 You shall fall by the sword. I will judge you at the border of Israel, and you shall know that I am the Lord. 11 This city shall not be your cauldron, nor shall you be the meat in the midst of it. I will judge you at the border of Israel, 12 and you shall know that I am the Lord. For you have not walked in my statutes, nor obeyed my rules, but have acted according to the rules of the nations that are around you.”

When the Lord spoke those words through Ezekiel, one of the men spreading the bad advice died. Ezekiel was really upset and cried out to God, “Ah, Lord God! Will you make a full end of the remnant of Israel?” (Verse 13). But God answered Him with some great encouragement. First the Lord told Ezekiel that some people needed chastisement and would get the punishment they deserved. What kind of loving Father would He be if He let evil go unpunished? The people who had stayed in Jerusalem and received the blessings had acted as if they deserved that goodness and rather than become closer to God they swelled up with pride and left Him. But some of those who had been exiled had taken it seriously and remained loyal to the Lord. God’s promise for them is also a promise for those who earnestly seek Him today and is recorded in verses 17-21.

“Therefore say, ‘Thus says the Lord God: I will gather you from the peoples and assemble you out of the countries where you have been scattered, and I will give you the land of Israel.’ 18 And when they come there, they will remove from it all its detestable things and all its abominations. 19 And I will give them one heart, and a new spirit I will put within them. I will remove the heart of stone from their flesh and give them a heart of flesh, 20 that they may walk in my statutes and keep my rules and obey them. And they shall be my people, and I will be their God. 21 But as for those whose heart goes after their detestable things and their abominations, I will bring their deeds upon their own heads, declares the Lord God.”

The people who had not abandoned the Lord were not perfect. They had stubborn natures. They didn’t get it all right. They probably disagreed about a few things. But the Lord promised to give them one heart, a new spirit, and to replace their hearts of stone with living teachable hearts of flesh. It is God who made it possible for them to walk in His law, not the impossible 613 laws but in His will and word to Love Him with all their heart, soul, and strength and to love their neighbor as themselves.

He makes it possible for you and me as well. All He needs is our willingness to seek Him and His will above everything else. He gives us the faith, the moldable heart, and the ability to obey. What is God’s will? It is that you call on Jesus to be your savior so that you can know Him, and He can be your God and you can be His child. He wants a relationship with you. He wants you to become like Jesus and because of who you are make Him known to the world who needs Him. He loves you. He loves your neighbor. Let Him be God and see how He will change you, employ you, and love you.

The truth is that judgment is coming. One Day Jesus will return and it will be too late for anyone to make a choice. Now is the time to decide. Now is the day of salvation. Don’t listen to people who tell you Hell isn’t real. Do not tolerate the foolishness that a loving god wouldn’t judge or punish. Today is the day to call on Jesus. When the Day of Judgment arrives it will be too late and it is coming.

Ezekiel Chapter 9 God Sees the Faithful

Ezekiel Chapter 9

In chapter 8 Ezekiel saw a vision of atrocious idolatry from blatant to secret to the vilest. Blasphemy and abominations will happen more and more until the Tribulation.  In chapter 9 he saw God’s reaction. The Lord called for the executioners to come, each with his weapon. Six men came each with a weapon for slaughter in his hand. Along with those angels came a man clothed in linen with a writing case at his waist. Verses 3-4 read,

“Now the glory of the God of Israel had gone up from the cherub on which it rested to the threshold of the house. And he called to the man clothed in linen, who had the writing case at his waist. 4 And the Lord said to him, “Pass through the city, through Jerusalem, and put a mark on the foreheads of the men who sigh and groan over all the abominations that are committed in it.”

Although furious and ready to release His wrath on Jerusalem, the Lord remembered those who remembered Him, who knew that the idolatry taking place was vile. Those people prayed with sighs and groans because it was just too horrible for words. So in the midst of His ferocity, the Lord showed mercy and the man clothed in linen, like a priest who had the writing case at his waist like an attorney or mediator went with the cherubim to mark the people who had not gone astray from the Lord.

The mercy of the Lord is manifested in Jesus Christ. And those who call on Him are sealed with the Holy Spirit.  2 Corinthians 1:20-22 read,

“For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory. 21 And it is God who establishes us with you in Christ, and has anointed us, 22 and who has also put his seal on us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.”

Many of the people committing the abominations blamed God for their sin and said He had forsaken them. (Ezekiel 8:12). But those who refused to give in to idolatry trusted God and knew He would never break His promises. They were saved from the judgments that came upon the rest.

Our God would not be our loving holy God if He were to let sin go. Everyone has to pay the price for the sins they have committed. Either they pay with their own blood, or let Jesus pay with His. Ezekiel was seeing first-hand the horror of that payment coming due. Verses 7-8 read,

“Then he said to them, “Defile the house, and fill the courts with the slain. Go out.” So they went out and struck in the city. 8 And while they were striking, and I was left alone, I fell upon my face, and cried, “Ah, Lord God! Will you destroy all the remnant of Israel in the outpouring of your wrath on Jerusalem?”

Ezekiel cared about the people who were being destroyed. He cared about Israel. He cared about Jerusalem. Jerusalem represented the few who had been spared from Babylonian captivity, they were the remnant meant to carry on until the captives returned. But when bad things happened they turned from the Lord and worshipped false gods and practiced false religions. The relationship they had with God was one-sided. God loved them. He kept His vows. But they were unfaithful to Him every chance they got.  Verses 9-10 read,

“Then he said to me, “The guilt of the house of Israel and Judah is exceedingly great. The land is full of blood, and the city full of injustice. For they say, ‘The Lord has forsaken the land, and the Lord does not see.’ 10 As for me, my eye will not spare, nor will I have pity; I will bring their deeds upon their heads.”

Sin has a price. It must be paid. It would be utterly detestable to imagine a god who let evil go unchecked, who didn’t punish wickedness. God loves us enough to make a way to a relationship with Him, to make a way of forgiving and paying the price for our sins. He sent Jesus to pay the price for us. When we accept the gift of grace by making Jesus our Lord, giving Him our lives then He gives us His Holy Spirit. He seals us and keeps us for His promises. No longer do we have to worry about condemnation. We are judged as blameless even though we don’t deserve it, because Jesus covered us with His righteousness or goodness.

God will not overlook those who remain faithful to Him when the time of adjudication comes. Verse 11 reads,

“And behold, the man clothed in linen, with the writing case at his waist, brought back word, saying, “I have done as you commanded me.”

The man, Jesus our mediator marked all the faithful, He sealed them with the Holy Spirit and they would not be killed with the majority who had not been faithful to the LORD.

It is so important to remain diligent about your relationship with God. What baggage have you brought into the relationship? Give it to Him. Be persistent in keeping your relationship pure. Remain faithful. Remember who God is.

Ezekiel Chapter 8 Abominations in the Temple

2/15/2015

Ezekiel Chapter 8 describes a vision of abominations in the Temple. For us now, we can see the importance of keeping our relationship with the Lord pure, not bringing anything else into it. But it is also a warning to remain stalwart in keeping that relationship unadulterated as the end times are on us and the Tribulation looms closer.

While Ezekiel was in his house with the Elders of Judah sitting before him, God lifted him into a vision. First God showed the prophet the gates to the courts of the Temple and there was an image of idolatry set up there. What a horrific atrocity! But it got worse. There was a hole in the wall of the court. It was a small hole that would allow someone to spy on the secret activities that took place behind the wall in the private chambers of the priests. God told Ezekiel to dig through the hole and it became a wide enough to enter.

Upon entering Ezekiel was shocked to see images of creeping things, loathsome beasts, and all idols engraved on the walls. But not only that, seventy of the elders each with a censer and incense were worshipping the various idols and images. They were in the private areas of the Temple doing these secret things. Verses 12-13 read,

“Then he said to me, “Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the dark, each in his room of pictures? For they say, ‘The Lord does not see us, the Lord has forsaken the land.’” 13 He said also to me, “You will see still greater abominations that they commit.”

Each man thought he was hiding his idolatry and evil from everyone, including the Lord. They had no faith that God had not left them and turned to carved pictures, false gods, and wooded idols. They kept it all hidden as if only what other people saw was important. When something is kept secret, it is not hidden from God. Sin flourishes in the dark. One would think that was as repugnant as their sin could get. But it got worse.

At the North Gate the women wept and prayed to a false God, Tammuz introduced by the Babylonians. Worse still, inside the courts twenty five men worshipped, not God, but the Sun. They had their backs turned away from the altar toward the east. Verses 17-18 read,

“Then he said to me, “Have you seen this, O son of man? Is it too light a thing for the house of Judah to commit the abominations that they commit here, that they should fill the land with violence and provoke me still further to anger? Behold, they put the branch to their nose. 18 Therefore I will act in wrath. My eye will not spare, nor will I have pity. And though they cry in my ears with a loud voice, I will not hear them.”

It was too obscene. God’s jealousy ignited His wrath and it couldn’t be contained. Ezekiel’s vision continues in subsequent chapters and it is very clear that the vision is of the End Times and Tribulation. But we have to take warning now. It is really easy to take a little something from a pagan god, religion or belief and because it seems harmless allow it to become part of your belief system. It is not harmless. When we add other beliefs to the Word, it is no longer the Word. We are creating a god of our own liking.

Ezekiel’s vision took him from the gates to the inner most parts of the Temple. The outside where everyone could see called people not to worship the Lord, but idols. A display like that makes people think those practices are okay. If this celebrity who is famous for his Christianity is flagrantly using symbols for a pagan religion, then how many people will follow his twisted doctrines to hell? In the women’s court they followed a ritual introduced by the Babylonians. It is too easy to take Non-Christian doctrine and meld it into our lives. Numerology, Astrology, and Illuminati have all found their ways into our systems. And many haven’t noticed or cared. In the private chambers of the priests, they clandestinely worshipped images. They kept their sin to themselves, but lied to God’s face. They even blamed God for their actions when it was their own lack of faith that led to the treachery. That would seem the ultimate adultery.

But the ultimate betrayal was bringing it to the most sacred of places, God’s altar. It would be like cheating on your spouse in your marital bed, and inviting him to watch. The Lord will not accept it. The Day of Judgment is coming. The Tribulation is coming. We have to be diligent about our relationship with the Lord. We have to keep it uncorrupted. God is holy.

We don’t need anything extra. God is omnipotent. He is awesome. We don’t have to pull from other practices and beliefs, we only have to seek Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and His righteousness. We only have to trust Him.

Examine your heart and life. Are you allowing other practices to soil your relationship with the Lord? Are you doing some things in private, because your church family wouldn’t understand or agree? Are you worshipping the One True Living God or perhaps a god of your own creation?

Repent now, while there is time.

As I read the Bible every day, I take what God teaches me, what He says, and write it out. I then share that with you. It gives me a deeper understanding of the Word and I hope that it will encourage you as it does me, to put your love and faith into action.
