Isaiah Chapter 9 Verses 8-21

Read Isaiah Chapter 9 Verses 8-21

This chapter continues the prophecy about the Assyrian Invasion. There is a sort of list of grievances that God has against Israel. I wonder if any of these attitudes and behaviors resemble our own.

Verses 8-10 read,

“The Lord has sent a word against Jacob,
    and it will fall on Israel;
9 and all the people will know,
    Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria,
    who say in pride and in arrogance of heart:
10 “The bricks have fallen,
    but we will build with dressed stones;
the sycamores have been cut down,
    but we will put cedars in their place.”

Instead of taking to heart what was happening and listening to God to repent, the people were so full of themselves that as damage happened they were saying, “No biggie, we can fix it.” And not only were they ignoring what God was saying to them but when they fixed the problems themselves they were not doing it by God’s criteria. They disregarded the Lord, His plans, His words, and repaired the broken with substandard materials. They made it look good, but it wasn’t.

Do you disregard the Lord? Do you try and fix your own problems? Or do you allow the circumstances in your life to teach you, and bring you closer to Him? Your solutions will never be as good and perfect as what the Lord has planned. Your provision will never be as complete. Your repair will can only be second-rate when compared to the perfection and restoration of what God will do. Looking good on the outside has nothing to do with Jesus Christ’s righteousness, The Father’s grace, or The Spirit’s power.

Verses 15-16 read,

“the elder and honored man is the head,
    and the prophet who teaches lies is the tail;
16 for those who guide this people have been leading them astray,
    and those who are guided by them are swallowed up.”

The people were not turning to God, and they were not turning to their king whom He had put in place. Perhaps they didn’t like the answers they got from The Lord, His true prophets and His king. They looked elsewhere for guidance. They looked to people who would tell them what they wanted to hear.

The Lord tells you go this way, do this. But it’s too hard to forgive, to accept discipline, or choose the right over the easy so instead you listen to the respected and popular voice whose advice is positive, easy to swallow and easy to follow. If you are uncertain about God’s voice, you can be sure of a few things. God speaks from deep love for you. His plan will probably not be the easy one. It requires faith. His plan will not cause you to harm others or otherwise sin. Rather than avoid suffering, His plan makes the trials work to better you.

Verses 19-21 read,

“Through the wrath of the Lord of hosts
    the land is scorched,
and the people are like fuel for the fire;
    no one spares another.
20 They slice meat on the right, but are still hungry,
    and they devour on the left, but are not satisfied;
each devours the flesh of his own arm,
21 Manasseh devours Ephraim, and Ephraim devours Manasseh;
    together they are against Judah.
For all this his anger has not turned away,
    and his hand is stretched out still.”

When disaster, hunger, and economic ruin hit Israel they only let it fuel the fire of their own desires and hungers. They had no money so they wanted more. They were hungry so they wanted food. And with every little bit they got, they weren’t grateful or satisfied. Getting a little made them want more and more until they turned against one another. They didn’t stand together or help one another. Their greed consumed them.

What about you? When you are short on cash, does the desire for money eat you? Or do you trust the Lord to provide like He promised. When you are hungry, are you thankful for the bread He provided or do you look for the filet mignon to go with it? Would you share the little you have with someone else in need or fight them to get to the front of the soup line before the kitchen closes?

Did you recognize yourself in any of these attitudes? Even a little? That is your Lord, His Spirit is revealing to you these problems. He wants to transform you to His Image. Give it all over to Him. Let Him have His way with you, your heart, your attitudes, and your actions. Let him make you into the image of Christ. How much better is that than the image of Donna? About a bazillion percent. No it is more like ∞%.

Isaiah Chapter 9 Verses 1-7

Read Isaiah Chapter 9 Verses 1-7

The first part of chapter 9 speaks about how the righteous will fare under the Assyrian invasion that Isaiah is prophesying about. Even through the very worst circumstances, famine, disease, and death, we do not have to suffer the way the lost do. Maybe they wail night and day. Maybe they have lost everything that matters to them, but that is not so for us, if we have Jesus Christ. If His blood has made us righteous, then we walk with God and He will never leave us. We know no matter what disaster strikes God will work it for our good. We may be in the same circumstances, having to face the same famine, the same wars, the same diseases but we have The Almighty Loving triune God, Lord of Lords with us.

This chapter is also Messianic prophecy. The gentiles who once were the pagans and heathens who didn’t know who God was or even heard of His law will see the light. Verses 3-4 read,

“You have multiplied the nation;
    you have increased its joy;
they rejoice before you
    as with joy at the harvest,
    as they are glad when they divide the spoil.
4 For the yoke of his burden,
    and the staff for his shoulder,
    the rod of his oppressor,
    you have broken as on the day of Midian.”

We no longer have to be oppressed by Satan and his lowly minions. We are free from the slavery and captivity of the enemy. We are celebrating and all the treasure and reward meant for the powerful and high (or to the Israelites who chose the Law over Jesus) belongs to us. Why? Verses 7-8 tell us,

“For to us a child is born,
    to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
    and his name shall be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of his government and of peace
    there will be no end,
on the throne of David and over his kingdom,
    to establish it and to uphold it
with justice and with righteousness
    from this time forth and forevermore.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.”

If you’re like me you’re singing those verses, not only because they were so beautifully put to music by George Frideric Handel, but because Jesus is Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace. Because He is our perfect Messiah and I love Him dearly but He loves us more. His Love for us is deeper than we even have the capacity to comprehend.

He didn’t promise we wouldn’t suffer. But He did promise He would always be with us through everything. (Deuteronomy 31:8). He promised that all that suffering has benefits for us. (Romans 5:3-5, Romans 8:28-29).  He promised that we will have eternal life. (1 John 5:13-14).

Isaiah Chapter 8 Trust in charming men of The LORD

Read Isaiah chapter 8

The chapter is a part of a prophecy about Assyria’s Invasion of Judah, Israel and Samaria. It continues through Chapter 13. As it often is with the Word, He has more to teach and say than what is on the surface. The first part of the prophecy has Isaiah writing a tablet plainly and with witnesses of this prophecy. He is to name the tablet ‘Belonging to Maher-shalal-hash-baz. His wife then gave birth to a son and The Lord told him to name is son Maher-shalal-hash-baz, which means “Spoil Speeds Plunder Hurries.” The Lord said that before the boy could say, Mommy and Daddy the king of Assyria would have plundered the wealth of Damascus and Samaria. (Verses 1-4).

The Lord continued. Verses 5-8 read,

“The Lord spoke to me again: 6 “Because this people has refused the waters of Shiloah that flow gently, and rejoice over Rezin and the son of Remaliah, 7 therefore, behold, the Lord is bringing up against them the waters of the River, mighty and many, the king of Assyria and all his glory. And it will rise over all its channels and go over all its banks, 8 and it will sweep on into Judah, it will overflow and pass on, reaching even to the neck, and its outspread wings will fill the breadth of your land, O Immanuel.”

Like the people of Judah, we too often turn our backs on the comfort, provision, and beauty of what The Lord gives us in want of the spectacular things of the world. We listen to compelling ideas or an alluring leader or speaker who turns our minds from The Lord and from truth to lies, conspiracies, and teachings that sound good but have nothing to do with The Lord God Almighty, Jesus Christ, and The Holy Spirit.

If we want what the world has to offer, God will give us what the world has to offer. He will do whatever it takes to restore us to a relationship with Him, transform us to His image, and make us who we were created to be. He will not do it against our will though. He will bring us to a point where we have to make the choice. He did it throughout history as Israel rebelled and ignored Him time and again. He will do it for us as well.

But people can’t stand against The LORD. He is sovereign. They may think they are in control, but God allows works to happen for the good of His children. Do you call on His name through the good and the bad and the horrific? He has you in His hands.

The Assyrians thought they had all the power but it was given to them by The Lord. The rebellious Samaritans, Israelites, and Judahites, tried on their own to fight Assyria, but they put their faith in their king rather than The King of Kings. God had a word for the Assyrians too and it is paraphrased like this, “Consider yourselves beaten, plan all you want. Your words will come to nothing because The Word is God is With Us.”

God is the God of Salvation. Salvation comes through Jesus Christ, Immanuel, The Lord of Lords and King of Kings.

The prophecy continues as The Lord warns Isaiah not to fall into the habits of the people who let fear and dread eat them up as they believed conspiracies and schemes and tried everything but faith in God to fix their problems. Verses 13-15 read,

“But the Lord of hosts, him you shall honor as holy. Let him be your fear, and let him be your dread. 14 And he will become a sanctuary and a stone of offense and a rock of stumbling to both houses of Israel, a trap and a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem. 15 And many shall stumble on it. They shall fall and be broken; they shall be snared and taken.”

The Lord, Jesus Christ is either a rock, a foundation of safety, peace and comfort to you, or He is a stone that will cause you to fall and break. The Lord calls His people to keep teaching the truth, to keep faith in Him regardless of the circumstances around us. He exhorts us to keep our hope in Him and remember He is God, The Lord of Hosts. Don’t be tempted to turn to the false gods, false prophets and even the psychics and mediums to get answers and relieve fears. Keep your faith in Him.

Whatever calamity is happening in your life now, remember God is with you. He saved you once and for all. He is next you, in front of you and behind you. He is within you. He promised never to leave. Hold onto that. Have faith that He is the God of Your Salvation. He is your only hope and the only hope you need.

Isaiah Chapter 7 Say yes to God!

Read Isaiah Chapter 7

In this Chapter Isaiah goes to speak to King Ahaz about some trouble makers Rezin the King of Syria and Pekah the king of Israel. They had gotten together to war against Judah. But God spoke to Ahaz through Isaiah and told him not to worry about it. Verses 7-9 read,

“7 thus says the Lord God:

“‘It shall not stand,
    and it shall not come to pass.
8 For the head of Syria is Damascus,
    and the head of Damascus is Rezin.
And within sixty-five years
    Ephraim will be shattered from being a people.
9 And the head of Ephraim is Samaria,
    and the head of Samaria is the son of Remaliah.
If you are not firm in faith,
    you will not be firm at all.’”

God told them to have faith in Him and let Him take care of the problem. The two forces Syria and Ephraim (Israel) did join forces and they were fierce. Ahaz was terrified and his people were terrified too. God reminded Ahaz to stand firm in faith, trust Him, and see that He would protect them.

God wanted to strengthen Ahaz faith, He wanted to show Him that He meant business. So He did this amazing thing He said, “Ask a sign of the Lord your God; let it be deep as Sheol or high as heaven.” (Verse 11). But Ahaz decided to take a falsely pious route, he acted like God was testing him instead of offering to show His power and might. Ahaz answered, “I will not ask, and I will not put the Lord to the test.” He denied The LORD the opportunity to use him to show His power. He didn’t allow God to be glorified and his people’s faith strengthened by a great sign. The Lord asked Ahaz to put Him to the test! He told Him to ask for any sign no matter how extravagant and He would do it. He wanted to make their faith firm by showing His might and power. God offered Ahaz a miracle and Ahaz said no. I can almost hear His heavy sigh of exasperation as He answered the king. Verses 13-16 read,

“And he said, “Hear then, O house of David! Is it too little for you to weary men, that you weary my God also? 14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. 15 He shall eat curds and honey when he knows how to refuse the evil and choose the good. 16 For before the boy knows how to refuse the evil and choose the good, the land whose two kings you dread will be deserted.”

The Lord had told Ahaz that not only would He be with them, but this war be completely over in less than 13 years. He was more powerful than any army, any king, or any force on earth. But he had more. He said, “This war will be short and you’ll be fine, but there is another king coming and the war he wages will not be so easy. The king of Assyria will come and he will shame you, bring the economy to its knees and leave a small remnant of survivors.”

God’s prophecy had more than one meaning and more than one time when they would come to pass. During Ahaz time a currently unmarried girl would have a child and before he reached the age when he could make moral decisions the war would be over.

But we also know this is the greatest and most wonderful sign we could ever ask for. The prophecy of Jesus birth, God Himself coming to earth to make a way for our salvation. The prophecy concerning the king of Assyria mirrors what will happen to the earth in the last days when the antichrist comes to destroy man and make war against God. But we have faith and we stand firm in our faith. We know that God has the plan and He has the victory.

Have you been afraid to let God reveal His power to you or through you? Ahaz had the chance to allow God to reveal His great power by asking for a miracle. But used piety as an excuse for his faithlessness. He used God’s own sovereignty as an excuse. God told Ahaz to ask, and Ahaz refused. What comfort would that brought to a terrified people? What goodness? Ahaz wasn’t a super great stand-up guy, but God still wanted to do something wonderful for him.

God wants to strengthen your faith by revealing Himself through you. He wants to use and be glorified through you. He wants to do great things through you. What excuses are you using to deny God His glory? Are you too good to ask God for a miracle? Are you afraid you’re not good enough for God to do something for you? Are you to afraid that God will not be there when you ask? Do you think God can’t or won’t do it?

God came to earth from the splendor of Heaven. He sent His precious and wonderful Son, Jesus to the world because of His deep love. He already did a miracle bigger and deeper than anything we could come up with. Don’t be afraid to ask for more. Don’t be afraid to let God do the impossible through you.

Here are some reminders that God still wants to do great things in your life, for you and through you.

John 14:12-14 “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. 13 Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.”

James 4:2-3 “You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask. 3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.”

Matthew 28:18-20 “And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Isaiah 6:9-1

Read Isaiah Chapter 6 Verses 9-13

In yesterday’s reading of the first half of this chapter Isaiah was saved by God’s astounding grace and immediately was ready to go where God would send Him and do whatever it was He would ask Him. God had a difficult task for Isaiah. He had messages for the people. Messages that they didn’t want but needed. Verses 9-10 read,

“And he said, “Go, and say to this people:

“‘Keep on hearing, but do not understand;
keep on seeing, but do not perceive.’
10 Make the heart of this people dull,
    and their ears heavy,
    and blind their eyes;
lest they see with their eyes,
    and hear with their ears,
and understand with their hearts,
    and turn and be healed.”

How many times had they been told these things? Countless, yet they continued to ignore it. Pride got in the way and rather than accept the truth, they let it become meaningless. Imagine you are a child it is fall, and every day as you leave for school your mother says, “Take a jacket, it will be cold later.” You’ve enjoyed a lovely summer. Every day you leave the house without your burdensome jacket. Her words, though spoken clearly, and heard by you, become a nonsensical part of the background, so routine, they do not even stand out against the other noise of the morning. You know better. You are the one out there every day. It is not cold enough for a jacket, and when it is you’ll bring your jacket then.

It is that way with God’s words for us, and for the lost. He tells us time and again. He has given us His Bible, He speaks to us directly. He gives us signs, circumstances, and discernment. He calls out, “Stop! Turn around. I love you. Let me heal you. Let me be your Daddy.” He has made the way clear, Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life, No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6). We’ve been told, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,” (Romans 3:23-24).

But we let pride tell us it is so much drivel. We harden our hearts to Him. Even once we become Christians we can fall back into the pattern of ignoring God. The Lord can have a great calling or purpose for us, and warn us that we are involved in something we shouldn’t be. While we ae crying out to God, “Why Lord? Send me a sign, tell me what to do!” He is still there faithful and unchanging, saying, “What more signs could you need. You know the truth, I’ve given you the circumstances, the teaching, the words, and the path. Walk it.”

We’ve made our hearts dull, our eyes blind, and our ears deaf to God because pride says, “we know better.” And until we either humble ourselves to admit that we are broken and God is perfect, or we experience the consequences He warned us about, we will ignore Him. Sometimes we will still not humble ourselves through the circumstances. Go back to being a kid again, the afternoons have been chilly, stepping out of the house in the mornings is darn right cold, but it isn’t enough to make you submit to your mother’s love and grab your jacket. Then you would have to admit she’s right. Now not only is the morning cold, the afternoon is cold and you are utterly coldly uncomfortable. But rather than admit Mom is right, you would rather try any other avenue. You see if your friends have an extra jacket (why would they?) You drink coffee, even though Dad said no coffee until you are 18. You shiver and suffer because you can’t humble yourself, admit you need your parents and obey them.

The Lord loves you. You have a free will and He won’t impose His will against yours. But He will keep calling. He will keep doing everything short of forcing you. He speaks, send signs and sometimes even allows calamity. Verses 11-13 read,

“Then I said, “How long, O Lord?”
And he said:
“Until cities lie waste
    without inhabitant,
and houses without people,
    and the land is a desolate waste,
12 and the Lord removes people far away,
    and the forsaken places are many in the midst of the land.
13 And though a tenth remain in it,
    it will be burned again,
like a terebinth or an oak,
    whose stump remains
    when it is felled.”
The holy seed is its stump.”

He doesn’t do this because He wants bad for you. He does it because He loves you and wants the best for you. He wants a relationship with you. He wants you to be the very best you can be, to be who you were created to be. The situations can get horrible. Look at the verses above. God was ready to lay Israel to waste to desolation, but He didn’t destroy it completely, he left a remnant. He left a holy seed. He made a way for salvation from the destruction. He always leaves you the choice.

There is always a way. All you have to do is humble yourself enough to see you need The Lord. The moment you can admit that, He gives you the faith to move the rest of the way. He lets your heart, mind, and soul understand and gives you the faith to believe that He is God. He, Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, and you can make Him Lord of your life, submitting it to Him and letting His Holy Spirit repair, restore, comfort and transform you.

He is calling you right now. Can you let go of the pride and say, “I need you Jesus, I can’t do it alone. You alone can save me. I am broken, I have done so much wrong against you. Take my life, it is yours and I am yours. Be the Lord of my life.”

If you prayed that just now, contact me or someone whom you know follows Jesus and let me or them pray with you and walk with you on your new journey.

Isaiah 6:6-8 When will you be ready to go?

Isaiah Chapter 6 Verses 6-8

Recall yesterday’s reading of verses 1-7 of this chapter, Isaiah was having a vision of Glorious Mighty God and realized his sin made him unworthy to be in God’s presence. He confessed his sin and The Lord sent a seraphim with a burning coal to touch his lips and in verse 7 said, “Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for.”

Verse 8 reads, “And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.”

Isaiah had received salvation, grace and mercy. Now the Lord said “There’s a job to be done.” And Isaiah immediately was ready to do it. His response was “Here I am! Send me.” He didn’t say, I need some evangelism classes, a year of discipleship, and a study to determine my gifts. He said, “Here I am! Send me.”

He knew that his people were just as sinful as he was. They needed salvation just as much as he did. He knew The Lord could save them and wanted to save them. He was ready to go, do, and speak what The Lord would have him do and speak wherever He was sent.

He didn’t ask, “Where will you send me, what will I say, or what will I do?” He said, ““Here I am! Send me.” He didn’t ask for a list of openings in the temple roster so he could see which need he would choose to fill. He stepped up to the plate and was ready and willing to do whatever God would have him do.

There is nothing wrong with discipleship. In fact it is important and necessary. Evangelism classes are great if they will give you the courage and boldness to share the Gospel with the world. Knowing your gifts is important too and if you do not recognize them in yourself then do a test, ask a friend, and most of all pray for revelation. None of those things are prerequisites to serving the Lord. The only criteria for serving God is your willingness.

God has a job for you! There are millions of people who are lost, who do not know the true love of the Father, the forgiveness of Jesus, or the comfort of The Spirit. God has a message for them. He is looking for someone to love them as He loves. He is looking for someone to use the gifts He’s given them to bring the broken to Him. Will it be you? Are you there? Are you willing to go? Are you ready to step out of the temple and shine the light of God’s glory and love into the darkness?

God created you and chose you for a job. Isaiah was a prophet, whose wiliness to serve God resulted in prolific and poignant prophecy that still impact us today. You, child of the King have the power of The Holy Spirit, the authority of Christ, and the calling of The LORD. Shine for Him. Go, do, speak truth, and love.

Isaiah 6 1:7

Read Isaiah Chapter 6 Verses 1-7

Chapter 6 records a vision from The Lord given to Isaiah. I do not want to miss out on any of the significance of what it is recorded here, so today I’m concentrating on the first seven verses.

In the vision, Isaiah sees The Lord sitting exalted on a throne. The train of His robe fills the temple. (Verse 1). He sees the Lord as royal, noble, above all, and holy. He fills the temple with His glory. Around The Lord are seraphim attending Him. Picture Him. This is a picture of a King. He is great. He is awesome in truest sense. The seraphim are a unique angel. They are described here and the picture given is terrific. Verse 2 reads,

“Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew.”

Seraphim is translated “burning ones” in Hebrew and comes from a root meaning princely. In Numbers 21:6 is the word used for the serpents that bit and killed many Israelites. In fact it is used several times in the Bible to describe snakes including Isaiah and Deuteronomy. The imagery of fiery six winged serpents as God’s attendants is one of awesome holy royal glory. Verses 3-4 read,

“And one called to another and said:

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts;
the whole earth is full of his glory!”

4 And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke.”

The angels didn’t whisper or think the praise and description of The Lord. They didn’t shout it aimlessly to no one. They called to one another. This praise had purpose and it further glorified the Lord. Praising God whether silently or verbally blesses Him, but when you are verbal about it, when that praise is shared, God is glorified and people ae blessed as well. Glorifying God means more people hear about His goodness, His greatness, His power, and His love. The seraphim told each other about the holiness of The Lord, the Commander of Angel Armies. And when they did, there was an effect. Smoke filled the temple pouring out from The Holy of Holies where the Lord sat on His thrown. This smoke or cloud is a representation or manifestation of God after the priests had ministered to Him in the Holy of Holies in 1 Kings 8:10, and In Ezekiel 10 that cloud is God’s glory as it first fills the temple then leaves it. The smoke of the incense which was there to bring the prayers of the people to Him and to honor Him contains His glory. When you glorify God, by praying, praising Him, loving others as He loves, obeying Him, and sharing Him there is an impact. His glory, His manifestation of His Spirit fills the temple. You and I are His temple if we have made Jesus our Lord. More than only fill the temple, His glory goes out and fills the whole earth. You and I are the vehicles for that awesome prophecy.

Isaiah saw a problem, immediately he knew He couldn’t bear to be in the presence of Holiness, because he was not holy. Verse 5 reads,

“And I said: “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!”

Remember woe is a serious word, it doesn’t mean “Oh my, oh dear.” It means, despair, wretchedness and calamity. Isaiah confessed his sinfulness and understood that it couldn’t allow him to survive in existence with The Lord’s perfect pure holiness. But God made a way for Isaiah. Verses 6-7 read,

“Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7 And he touched my mouth and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for.”

A coal from the altar where God had ignited the fire was touched to Isaiah’s lips. The mouth is the vehicle of our sin and the instrument of our Salvation. Salvation comes after we confess with our mouths that Jesus is Lord. Forgiveness of sins comes from God, His fire cleansed Isaiah and every one of his sins was burned away and paid for on God’s altar.

Now Isaiah could commune with God. Now he was worthy to be in His presence and hear from God. If you have been saved, made righteous and are in a relationship with The Lord then you too are ready to do what God would have you do. You are ready to let His Spirit fill you and let His glory fill in the earth. This is an active and intentional act on your part. Leave the confines of temple and go out into the world and love people, serve them, and impact the world not for your sake, but for God’s glory.

Read Isaiah Chapter 5 Verses 8-30

This section includes a list of warnings about destructive behaviors. These are behaviors you might recognize in yourself and if you do, take heed to the warning. Repent before the choice to repent is taken away. One day it will be too late.

Woe is the word Isaiah uses in this chapter it speaks of a warning upcoming affliction, and severe suffering. Do these descriptions sound familiar? Do they remind you of anyone close to you? Do see yourself, even an inkling of yourself in there? We are warned for a reason. We are warned because there is a chance to recognize and act. There is an option to be convicted and repent.

Woe to the greedy pursuing wealth. Woe to those who seek prosperity. You might attain riches but you will cost yourself relationships, you’ll live in your mansions and be alone. But the LORD says one day even your fortune won’t help you. The world will suffer famine, the economy will be so bad that your money will be useless to provide you comfort. (Verses 8-10).

Woe to the drunkard chasing the party. You want to get drunk and high from sunrise to late into the night. You carouse and a look for a good time and ignore the signs of God, His great works and all He does. It’s happening right in front of your face but you can’t see it because your too busy looking for the next festivity. (Verses 11-12).

So many people are pursuing prosperity and chasing down a good time that they are ignoring and have even become blind to The LORD. They are not only walking down that wide welcoming path of destruction and death to eternal Hell, they are running there and are excited and proud of it.

They don’t know the truth, the hope, or the joy of God. They suffer needlessly. They hunger and thirst for truth and Love but they try to satisfy their flesh instead of their souls. They don’t know what they are doing. They don’t know the truth. They haven’t been shown the wonderful awesome truth of Jesus Christ. They party in pride and ignorance but Jesus offers Salvation. Verses 15-17 read,

“Man is humbled, and each one is brought low,
    and the eyes of the haughty are brought low.
16 But the Lord of hosts is exalted in justice,
    and the Holy God shows himself holy in righteousness.
17 Then shall the lambs graze as in their pasture,
    and nomads shall eat among the ruins of the rich.”

We who are saved who pursue righteousness rather than prosperity or revelry will enjoy the comfort, joy, and provision of The Holy God.

Woe to those who stubbornly and purposely continue to sin. They are actually proud of their evil. They know it is wrong and they delight in it, even getting others to go down to darkness with them. They mock God saying, “If he’s gonna do something about it, then why doesn’t he do it? Hurry up! Strike me down if you’re so great!”

Woe to those who say that evil is good and good is evil. They’ve twisted things, they believe and make others believe that atrocious acts are good and that those who oppose them are the wicked. For example, the horrendous murderous act of abortion is exalted as good, and the person who stands against it is portrayed as hate personified. What about the person who bombs abortion clinics or kills people who they label infidels. They have made love into hate and hate into love.

Woe to the proud who think they are so wise and smart on their own. (Verse 21).

Woe people who pursue drinking alcohol as if it a championship sport in need of a champion. (Verse 22).

Woe to those who look the other way and take bribes instead of seeking justice and protecting the innocent and the victims. (Verse 23).

They won’t get away with it forever. One day the truth about who each of us is will be shown. Our core will be revealed. If we despised the law of The LORD God of Hosts, if we rejected His Word, it will be revealed and the consequences will be dire.

God’s wrath will be released. There will be earthquakes and other natural disasters so devastating the bodies will appear to be mountains of trash! (Verse 25).  At that weakened state still suffering from the poor economy made worse by catastrophes wars will be fought. The armies God sends against the poor haggard and starving of once rich and falsely proud will be strong, vigorous, fast, and excellent warriors. There will be no hope in sight. There will be no light to save you and no sound but the roar of the army. (Verses 26-30).

It will be too late on that day. But it isn’t too late now. Now is the time to examine yourself and choose your Lord. Is it Jesus or is it you? If you pursue prosperity, revelry, self, evil or lies, you serve yourself and you will face the consequences. But if you accept the Love of God, the gift of His grace and forgiveness through Jesus Christ, and His Awesome Beautiful Spirit then you serve Him and eternal life and hope are yours. Choose now. Today is the day of your salvation.

Isaiah 5:1-7 Wild grapes

Wild Grapes... Great food for wild animals, edible for humans. Not good for wine.

These are Norton Grapes. Even looking at them makes my mouth water.
Read Isaiah Chapter 5 Verses 1-7

Isaiah writes poetically about His Beloved’s vineyard. Verses1-2 read,

“Let me sing for my beloved
    my love song concerning his vineyard:
My beloved had a vineyard
    on a very fertile hill.
2 He dug it and cleared it of stones,
    and planted it with choice vines;
he built a watchtower in the midst of it,
    and hewed out a wine vat in it;
and he looked for it to yield grapes,
    but it yielded wild grapes.”

My Beloved is The LORD, this is His vineyard. He put it on a fertile hill. He place where it could get all the nutrients of the soil, the best light, and air flow. He dug, he removed all the barriers, the stones which would hurt the vines and stunt their growth.

He planted a watchtower in it. The watchtower was a place where the vineyard keeper resided as he did his job. During harvest time the entire family could live there. It represents protection from enemies and thieves and rising above them. It is the temple of God to the Jew. God resided in Solomon’s Temple and today God resides with the believer. He protects, watches, guides, and transforms you from the inside. He is with you, walking alongside you.

He hewed a wine vat. He is prepared for the results of the fruit He planted and is sowing. Yet the grapes that grew were not the grapes He planted. Wild grapes grow because their vines have tendrils that grab onto other plants, trees and such and grow.

God didn’t plant the wild grapes, which would not yield the wine He desires. Wild grapes can be good for many things but the wine they produce is poor quality compared to the carefully cultivated and chosen grapes from the vineyard. The wild grapes would produce a substandard poor copy, not the rich full drink intended.

So The Vineyard Keeper had a plan even though He had done everything He should have done and could have done to produce the grapes He desired. Verses 5-6 read,

“And now I will tell you
    what I will do to my vineyard.
I will remove its hedge,
    and it shall be devoured;
I will break down its wall,
    and it shall be trampled down.
6 I will make it a waste;
    it shall not be pruned or hoed,
    and briers and thorns shall grow up;
I will also command the clouds
    that they rain no rain upon it”

God removed His special protection from the vineyard, now animals could prowl and eat from the vines. He broke down the wall so anyone could come in and walk on and crush the wild grapes. He would not bother pruning or hoeing. Had the grapes been the ones He planted ready to be made into His sweet good wine, He would have cut back, hoed, and cared for the plants. But these plants were growing wild and he didn’t want them to flourish. The results they would offer would not be the perfect wine His grapes would produce. Why should He work hard in a garden that will produce results that are not His and are not good?

You were created to be God’s very own child. He made you. He gave you gifts, talents, and qualities that when combined with Jesus’ Salvation and the filling of the Holy Spirit make you exactly perfect for the purposes He has given you. But the devil is out there prowling around, planting lies next to the seeds God sows. That weasel brings wild grapes into the vineyard that grow and look good. Some even taste good. But they are not what God had in mind for you or me. They are less than. But they are easy, they grow without cultivation. The goals God has for you and I require His careful cultivation, His loving hands and the occasional pain of pruning, cutting back leaves, and allowing the fullness of the sun, water and nutrients of the soil create in us the fruit God desires.

Don’t be deceived, a wild grape may look good and taste good, but the fruit of The LORD God Almighty is so much more than the wild grape could be. The wine that comes from the chosen, planted and cultivated grape is rich, full, and tastes good. The wine that comes from the wild grape has to be mixed with others things like sugar, more grapes, other fruits, and still the wine is only palatable.

Don’t settle for less. Be who God chose for you to be. Let Him cut that leaf back. The pain is temporary but the sun shining down allows you to grow and develop more sweetness. Let Him prune away the parts that will hinder you.

Being a wild grape is easier, no pruning, no cutting. But there is also no assurance of provision and you end up being way less than you could have been. When will the rain come? Who will keep the weasel from eating you up? Who will protect you from the thief?

Don’t let the spirit of rebellion keep you from the fullness of life God is offering you. Don’t let fear of transformation stop you from allowing Him to make you new. God wants to use you. He has made the way, provided you with everything necessary and offers Himself to you. Submit to Jesus, give yourself to Him and see how He will use you. Your life will say, “Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!” (Psalm 34:8).

Isaiah Chapter 4

Read Isaiah Chapter 4

This chapter begins with a bleak picture of the desperation people will have reached after the wars, disease, and desolation of chapter 3. The hopelessness results in the twisting of one of God’s precious sacraments, marriage. Verse 1 reads,

“And seven women shall take hold of one man in that day, saying, “We will eat our own bread and wear our own clothes, only let us be called by your name; take away our reproach.”

Rather than one man and one woman in a communal reciprocal relationship, the relationship above is in name only. There is no mutual love or care, no partnership. It is everyone for himself. His and Hers and Hers belongings, bank accounts, needs, and satisfaction of those needs. Isn’t that the picture of relationships today? Too often people do not even bother getting married. Women seek a father or rather a sperm donor to bare children instead of a husband that will be a father to their children. Husbands and wives, domestic “partners” do not really do more than share a bed and an address. They look out for their own needs, they keep themselves ready for the breakup, which they treat as inevitable.

This is not the picture of marriage God has given us. It is not a reflection of the relationship God has for us with Him. With Jesus as the Bride-groom, the relationship is perfect and permanent. We do not need an “out.” He provides our every need. We commune with Him. We submit to Him and He loves us deeply and wholly.

The world we live in is fallen, broken, and twisted. But some of us pursue God anyway. Some of us have accepted the gift of eternal life from Him. For those He has great promises. Verses 2-3 read,

“In that day the branch of the Lord shall be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the land shall be the pride and honor of the survivors of Israel. 3 And he who is left in Zion and remains in Jerusalem will be called holy, everyone who has been recorded for life in Jerusalem,”

That’s you and me, Believer! We are His bride. Is your name written in the Book of Life? Is Jesus your Lord? He is beautiful and glorious. We can see that. We know Him, His Love and what He has done and is doing. The world can’t see it, they can’t see Him for who He is. One day they will. One day judgment will come for everyone and fire will burn everything and everyone. What remains will be good, holy, and beautiful. He gives us a taste of eternity now. When He saves, He cleanses the soul, He removes the smut and grime of sin and makes us holy. He calls us righteous. Verse 4 reads,

“when the Lord shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion and cleansed the bloodstains of Jerusalem from its midst by a spirit of judgment and by a spirit of burning”

And furthermore, He will be with us. His glorious presence leads us, protects us and comforts us. Verses 5-6 in The Message put it this way,

“Then God will bring back the ancient pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night and mark Mount Zion and everyone in it with his glorious presence, his immense, protective presence, shade from the burning sun and shelter from the driving rain.”

That day will come. Everyone will experience it from one side or the other. Believer, you are experiencing eternity now. You already have eternal life. Although it is not yet complete, it is very real. Live with the knowledge and truth that our hope and promise is accomplished. Jesus was, and is, and is to come. Remember He is. God has said His name is, I Am. That is now. That is forever. Don’t live in the twisted version of good created by the world. Live in the true goodness of Jesus Christ.
