This chapter through chapter 27 contain prophecy that pertains to the End Times and destruction of the whole Earth. It is bleak but only if you are not among the few saved. The Love of God has to reveal Himself in Justice.
Verses 1-3 read,
“Behold, the Lord will empty the earth and make it desolate,
and he will twist its surface and scatter its inhabitants.
2 And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest;
as with the slave, so with his master;
as with the maid, so with her mistress;
as with the buyer, so with the seller;
as with the lender, so with the borrower;
as with the creditor, so with the debtor.
3 The earth shall be utterly empty and utterly plundered;
for the Lord has spoken this word.”
The tribulations and calamities sent to the earth will not only be to the powerful andrich but also to the weak and poor. Everyone will be affected. Everyone will be equal under the eyes of the wrath of God. Why? Verse 5 reads,
“The earth lies defiled
under its inhabitants;
for they have transgressed the laws,
violated the statutes,
broken the everlasting covenant.”
The earth, the land itself is ruined and chaotic, as is the Earth, the entire world. As the land will no longer produce enough fruit for wine and food for enjoyment the population becomes smaller and weaker, finding less and less to celebrate as they seek to survive. Verses 9-11 read,
“No more do they drink wine with singing;
strong drink is bitter to those who drink it.
10 The wasted city is broken down;
every house is shut up so that none can enter.
11 There is an outcry in the streets for lack of wine;
all joy has grown dark;
the gladness of the earth is banished.”
But those who praise The LORD will always have something to rejoice in. And they will still sing His praises regardless of the circumstance and desolation. Verses 14-16 read,
“They lift up their voices, they sing for joy;
over the majesty of the Lord they shout from the west.
15 Therefore in the east give glory to the Lord;
in the coastlands of the sea, give glory to the name of the Lord, the God of Israel.
16 From the ends of the earth we hear songs of praise,
of glory to the Righteous One.
But I say, “I waste away,
I waste away. Woe is me!
For the traitors have betrayed,
with betrayal the traitors have betrayed.”
Even through praising and glorifying the Lord, The Righteous One, Jesus, believers care about the suffering people are going through. We know that this was prophesied long ago, and we have been warning people and continue to do so. We know that God doesn’t want a single one of them to go to Hell and that unless they call on His Name they will. We do care. If we love God, we love who He loves and want what He wants. He loves the lost as much as He loves you and me. He wants them to know Him just as much as He wants to now you and me.
The lost will go from one trouble to another. They will escape snare only to fall in a pit. The trouble on the earth will be horrible. It will shake the foundations of every person whose foundation is not the Rock of Salvation. They will not escape the final judgment. Verses 21-23 read,
“On that day the Lord will punish
the host of heaven, in heaven,
and the kings of the earth, on the earth.
22 They will be gathered together
as prisoners in a pit;
they will be shut up in a prison,
and after many days they will be punished.
23 Then the moon will be confounded
and the sun ashamed,
for the Lord of hosts reigns
on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem,
and his glory will be before his elders.”
So keep glorifying The Lord but do not do so blindly. Let your glory make the Love of God shine. Let your proclamations of Christ be heard to the ends of the earth so that when the End of the Earth comes there will be fewer people gathered into that pit for eternal death. Following Christ is a public walk. It is a walk with a purpose. You are not meant to praise Him quietly in your home and shine a tiny light only big enough for your prayer closet. Your light is meant to shine out into the darkness of the world. There are so many lost and dying desperate to know the way. Let your light guide them to Christ.
