The LORD is great and awesome. He is the unchanging and steadfast. He doesn’t give up the on those He has called to Him. He keeps calling. He remains faithful. He remains The Mighty Holy Father and Lord God of Hosts.
People on the other hand might start following God with a passion and soon that passion is just a tiny glow or worse it is an old cold fire. Maybe on the outside you follow God, you obey some rules, and you pay attention to the way you are supposed to act. You go to church most Sundays (okay some Sundays). You tithe every penny you get (okay some of the pennies you get). You listen to “Christian” music and never let that secular stuff into your stereo system. You wear “Christian” T-shirts, and you fool everyone, including yourself that you are following Jesus. So you haven’t had a sit down conversation with Him in a long time, or meditated on His Word, or even read the Bible in a week or two or um… how long has it been? Sure all that has nothing to do with Salvation! That is all outer stuff. But those things are how your Salvation manifests itself. You worship God because you love Him and you read the Bible because of the joy He gives you, not because it is what you are supposed to do. The Fruit of the Spirit shines through in your life if you are genuinely following Christ and filled with His Spirit.
But too often we let our walk become ritualistic. Our prayers are rote and never reach our hearts or God’s ears as they bounce of the walls. Thank God, He doesn’t change. Thank God He is so awesome and mighty and loving even to the point of discipline. At some point, He backs off a bit and lets you have your pretend walk. He stops giving you visions and revelations, even if you do crack open the Bible and try to read, He hides the truth from you because you do not actually seek Him, you seek some form of Him that suits you. You try to make God into who you want Him to be instead of worshipping Who He Is.
Verses 11-16 read,
“And the vision of all this has become to you like the words of a book that is sealed. When men give it to one who can read, saying, “Read this,” he says, “I cannot, for it is sealed.” 12 And when they give the book to one who cannot read, saying, “Read this,” he says, “I cannot read.”
13 And the Lord said:
“Because this people draw near with their mouth
and honor me with their lips,
while their hearts are far from me,
and their fear of me is a commandment taught by men,
14 therefore, behold, I will again
do wonderful things with this people,
with wonder upon wonder;
and the wisdom of their wise men shall perish,
and the discernment of their discerning men shall be hidden.”
15 Ah, you who hide deep from the Lord your counsel,
whose deeds are in the dark,
and who say, “Who sees us? Who knows us?”
16 You turn things upside down!
Shall the potter be regarded as the clay,
that the thing made should say of its maker,
“He did not make me”;
or the thing formed say of him who formed it,
“He has no understanding”?”
Are you following The Holy One of Israel? Or are you following a god who fits your desires. Are you offering ritual and sacrifice or worship in truth and in spirit? Remember who God is, remember who you are. You are not The LORD God Creator of the Universe, Savior, or Holy Spirit. You are the clay waiting to be make into something useful and good.
