Read Isaiah Chapter 47
Do you ever feel a little bit envious of their easy life? I want beauty, but because of my teeth and my body I have to depend on the Lord for favor in the world instead of good looks. I don’t hold any sort of respected position, be it at home, at work, or in the community. I am loved by my family and friends, but only through the grace of God, because on my own, I am not lovable at all.
But I do not envy them for long. Because I have the honor, benefit, and freedom to rely completely on My Father, My Lord, My God for everything. I know people listen to the words of my mouth because of God in me, His Awesome and Beautiful Holy Spirit Who speaks into me, through me, and out of me. I know that the good being done is tangible and will have effects regardless if I see them because I trust the Word of The Lord who promised that His Word always has results. (Isaiah 46:10). I know Jesus is the One Who Saves and not me.
Don’t envy that person who seemingly has it all, she has so much she doesn’t even see her need of the Lord. She praises herself, because she has no one else to worship. She depends on herself because no one can do it as well as she can. Even surrounded by people, she is alone. And what she has will be lost one day. The only permanent thing in this Universe is The LORD, and if she doesn’t have Him, all she counts as dear will one day be gone. Verses 8-9 read,
“Now therefore hear this, you lover of pleasures,
who sit securely,
who say in your heart,
“I am, and there is no one besides me;
I shall not sit as a widow
or know the loss of children”:
9 These two things shall come to you
in a moment, in one day;
the loss of children and widowhood
shall come upon you in full measure,
in spite of your many sorceries
and the great power of your enchantments.”
Eventually physical beauty fades, charm wanes, strength diminishes but The Lord is constant and never tires and never fails. The high position they hold will not always be there, they will be replaced by the younger stronger more beautiful up-and-comer. Beauty and charm can only do so much. Inner wisdom and the false peace it gives cannot stand or save. A person cannot save herself. Only Jesus can save. Salvation comes from God, not from our endeavors or struggles. We can pursue salvation from endless directions but only a pursuit of The Lord God Almighty, The God of Love will end in obtaining that salvation. Verses 10-11 read,
“You felt secure in your wickedness,
you said, “No one sees me”;
your wisdom and your knowledge led you astray,
and you said in your heart,
“I am, and there is no one besides me.”
11 But evil shall come upon you,
which you will not know how to charm away;
disaster shall fall upon you,
for which you will not be able to atone;
and ruin shall come upon you suddenly,
of which you know nothing.”
And Verses 14-15 read,
“Behold, they are like stubble;
the fire consumes them;
they cannot deliver themselves
from the power of the flame.
No coal for warming oneself is this,
no fire to sit before!
15 Such to you are those with whom you have labored,
who have done business with you from your youth;
they wander about, each in his own direction;
there is no one to save you.”
Praise God He knows you, loves you and is sufficient for you. He truly is. He is your comfort and your joy. He is with you always. He gives gifts, favor, and provision. Vengeance is His. Salvation comes from Him. Look into your heart. Are you looking to yourself for redemption and deliverance? Have you said in your heart, “I am, and there is no one besides me?” Have you made yourself lord of your life?
