This chapter begins,
“Come, everyone who thirsts,
come to the waters;
and he who has no money,
come, buy and eat!
Come, buy wine and milk
without money and without price.
2 Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread,
and your labor for that which does not satisfy?
Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good,
and delight yourselves in rich food. (Verses 1-2).
Everyone, Jew, Gentile, rich and poor, are invited to salvation in Christ. It doesn’t cost a thing and it will more than satisfy your every need. You are seeking and striving to find a way to be good enough, but nothing you do can make you good enough. But if you just accept the invitation from Jesus to Salvation it is done. You are good enough, not because of anything you did, do, or will do, but because it is a lovely gift from The Lord.
It really is a good gift. Life under Jesus’ grace is not minimal, stark, or meager. He pours out His forgiveness and grace. He provides every need. He gifts and He blesses. And then there is the promise of Eternity. Heaven isn’t sitting around on clouds playing harps. Heaven is not the absence of all the “fun” you thought you had in your life. There is a huge party planned, a big wedding feast, singing and dancing and being face to face with God. All the good and wonderful gifts God gives us now in our lives, He fulfills and makes complete in Eternity.
Believer, He has made you and gifted you to tell people about His deep love and wonderful grace. You can glorify your Lord and share the beautiful news of Salvation because of all He has done and does in your life. He transformed you to His image and you can share the grace and love of God with the world. Verse 5 reads,
“Behold, you shall call a nation that you do not know,
and a nation that did not know you shall run to you,
because of the Lord your God, and of the Holy One of Israel,
for he has glorified you.”
Disciple, you must remember that earth is temporary and the day is coming when it will be too late. Seeker, today is the day. You do not have forever. Just at least, look into Jesus, check Him out. You’ll see He is good, really wonderfully good. Verses 6-9 read,
“Seek the Lord while he may be found;
call upon him while he is near;
7 let the wicked forsake his way,
and the unrighteous man his thoughts;
let him return to the Lord, that he may have compassion on him,
and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.
9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
God isn’t like us. He can do the impossible. His methods are not what we would use. When we realize our sins have made us so widely different from His pure and perfect love and ask the Lord to forgive us, He does. He changes us. He gives us that amazing and rich salvation.
God can bring anyone to salvation. Follower, He gave you the job of being His witness and giving testimony to His goodness so that the lost could hear the truth and experience that compassion and pardon for themselves. It is not your job to convince them to believe. It is your joy to glorify the Lord and speak His truth, show kindness with His compassion, and love with His love in truth and deed. God does the saving, not you. He will get done what He means to get done. He will use you or He will use someone else. He’s used donkeys, visions, storms, and trees. He can do whatever He wants. He gives you the opportunity to live His love and experience the fullness of life in Him by choosing to use you. Verses 10-11 read,
“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven
and do not return there but water the earth,
making it bring forth and sprout,
giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater,
11 so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth;
it shall not return to me empty,
but it shall accomplish that which I purpose,
and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.”
If you do not know the beautiful and jubilant truth of salvation, ask for it today, right now. Give God your wrongs and let Him wipe them away. Know that you can never be good enough to please God or get into Heaven, but God is willing to wipe every single transgression away. All you have to do is ask Jesus to forgive you and make Him your Lord of your life. God will do the rest. He will come into you and change you and satisfy you.
If you are saved. Are you enjoying the opulent life He’s given you? Are you Salt and Light to the lost? Are you glorifying God? Or perhaps you are living a stark life. Perhaps you struggle under the heavy load of trying to follow rules and laws. Maybe you struggle to convince people to turn to God. Give up the burden. Life the abundant life Jesus gave you. Delight in the wonderful gifts of the Holy Spirit. Enjoy the provision of the Father. Let your life be a witness to and reflection of your Lord. Let God do the saving.
